Miami Beats Out FSU for Linebacker

Three-star class of 2021 linebacker Thomas Davis had FSU among final schools, but ultimately chose the Hurricanes.

Update: While Thomas Davis had the 'Noles among his final three landing spots, FSU ultimately lost the recruiting battle to bitter rival Miami. The decision is not much of a surprise, as Davis was considered a Miami lean since his de-commitment Mississippi State.

Original: Three-star class of 2021 linebacker Thomas Davis from Valdosta, Georgia named his final three, and the Seminoles were among the short list.

Davis is a 6’ 2 1/2” 235 pound prospect that was committed to Mississippi State until June 8, and is set to make a decision on his new college on August 24. FSU just recently offered Davis on June 29, and the ‘Noles’ bitter rival Miami Hurricanes are considered the favorite for now.

The film of Davis shows a speedy defender off the edge. While he’s listed as a linebacker prospect, Davis plays defensive end for Lowndes High School, and shows a good motor when pursuing the quarterback. His size and speed are better suited for the linebacker position, as he does have the tendency to be stonewalled at the line by larger offensive linemen. However, his speed does often afford him the ability to gain the advantage on the edge, and when he gets home, he is a vicious hitter.

Davis was the 2019 Region 1-7A Defensive Player of the Year, and was also the MVP of the Great American Rivalry Series game against Valdosta. In his junior season, Davis recorded 47 tackles, 6.5 tackles for a loss, 11.5 sacks, and a fumble recovery. In addition to football, Davis also competes on track and field for Lowndes High, competing in sprints and shot put.

Davis is a composite three-star and currently ranked as the number 50 defensive end in the nation. The Florida State 2021 class currently sits at number 26 in the nation and has three linebackers committed.
