2024 Georgia Tech Football Transfer Profile: Jackson Hamilton

What kind of impact could Jackson Hamilton make this year at Georgia Tech?

Much like tight end, Georgia Tech was losing several players at the linebacker position and was going to need to go into the transfer portal to try and find some talent and experience. Paul Moala, Andre White Jr, and Braelen Oliver were out of eligibility and others left through the transfer portal. Not only that, but Georgia Tech had one of the worst run defenses in the country and was going to need to find upgrades on that side of the ball.

One of the players that they hope can do that is former Louisville linebacker Jackson Hamilton.

Hamilton played his high school football in the state of Georgia at Blessed Trinity Catholic and now will be coming back to try and compete for a linebacker spot at Georgia Tech next season. Hamilton has two years of eligibility left.

Hamilton played three years for the Cardinals from 2021-2023 and in his three seasons, he totaled 17 tackles and one pass deflection. At 6'1 220 LBS, he will bring athleticism to the position and I am anxious to see how he will fit in the defense next year.

Last season, Hamilton graded out well on PFF (Pro Football Focus), but it was a small sample size. He played 55 snaps and had a 69.1 defensive grade, with a high mark of 81.1 in run defense. Again, it is a limited sample, but there is some proof that Hamilton has a big step he can take as a linebacker.

Hamilton played his high school football at Blessed Trinity High School and  has an interesting recruiting profile per his bio at Georgia Tech Athletics:

"Rated as a three-star prospect by Rivals, 247Sports and ESPN … Slotted as the No. 38 inside linebacker and the No. 74 player in Georgia by 247Sports … Rated by Rivals as the No. 47 defensive end and the No. 58 player in the state of Georgia … First-team all-region … Three-time state champion … Coached by current Georgia Tech director of high school relations Tim McFarlin."

Hamilton is going to be competing to grab a starting spot this spring or at least be a depth piece and possible special teams player. The former Louisville Cardinal has a chance to make a difference on Georgia Tech's defense in 2024.
