Evan Haynes was at Georgia Tech several times in 2023 including the North Carolina and Georgia games. He plans to attend Georgia Tech’s Junior Day on January 20th.

I got a chance to catch up with Hayes and discuss a variety of topics around his recruitment.

“I went to the night game at North Carolina and the game vs Georgia. The stadium was pretty full. After the North Carolina game, you saw everybody storm the field. It was a really cool experience because I had never been to a college game where everybody stormed the field like that,” said Haynes. “The Georgia game was very close, and it was a good game. You could see all the Tech fans and they the team through the ups and downs.”

“It’s really good because it is so close to home. That’s why I have been to Georgia Tech so much. The relationship is really good right now. I have been talking to them a lot,” said Haynes. “I am actually going to go to their Junior Day on the 20th. They have a good team coming up with a new coach and everything. They went bowling this year and won their bowl game. It is really good to see them grow as a program, and see the recruits they have coming in.”

Haynes led the Fellowship Christian Paladins to a 10-3 record and quarter-final finish in 2023. He was the second-leading receiver on the team with 33 catches for 671 yards and six touchdowns. You look at his 6’3 frame and think he is a big body receiver but he is much more than that. Haynes is also dangerous in the return game and several special teams touchdowns. His ability after the catch and making defenders miss in the open field is another great part of his game.

Haynes credits his ability on the football field to being a four-sport athlete. All help in their own unique way.

“I think a bunch of sports correlate with each other because of footwork. In track, I get faster and learn how to In lacrosse, I play defense so more footwork like shuffling, getting down, getting low,” said Haynes. “Basketball, the quickness of the game, and a different type of conditioning that I really like about it.”

“In track, I hold multiple records which I am proud of. I hold the 200M and 400M records. I am 4X100M, 4X200M, and 4X400M records. I am 0.1 off the 100M record, which will be broken this year. I will be a part of six records coming this season.”

Off the field, Haynes really values his Christian faith and giving back to the community. Starting this weekend, he will be gone for a week to go on a mission trip.

“For school, I am taking a mission trip to Jamaica to help people, so that will be really fun. I will be gone for a week starting Saturday,” said Haynes. “That will really help because we are a Christian school and want to give back to the community. This is one way I felt that God helped me to pour into the community.

Haynes currently holds seven offers from East Carolina, Duke, Kansas, Vanderbilt, Georgia Tech, Akron, and North Carolina. He plans to take his time in the evaluation process and visit more schools before making a decision.

“I want to be known as a hardworking athlete, and not just an athlete but also a student. I really pride myself on getting good grades. That is something me and my parents focus on,” said Haynes. “That will definitely be big in my college decision, a good education. Football might be plan A, but there always needs to be a plan B. I need to get a good education and a good degree.”
