HOUSTON - The Southwestern Athletic Conference announced its 2023 Cricket SWAC Men's Basketball Tournament, presented by Starry seedings featuring the league's top eight teams after Saturday's regular-season finales.

SWAC MEN'S TOURNAMENT SEEDINGS

On Jan. 30, Alcorn State (15-3 SWAC) didn't realize how pivotal their 63-60 win over Grambling State (15-3 SWAC) would be in controlling the SWAC. The Braves' victory over the Tigers was the deciding factor as the teams ended the regular season as the conference's co-champions at 15-3.

Alcorn gained the No. 1 seed, and Grambling the No. 2 seed in the 2023 Cricket SWAC Men's Basketball Tournament, which will begin action at Bartow Arena in Birmingham on March 8-11.

No. 3 Jackson State (12-6 SWAC) upended Mississippi Valley State (4-14 SWAC) 68-60 to close the season.

The Southern Jaguars (11-7 SWAC) still secured the No. 4 seed after losing to No. 5 Alabama A&M (10-8 SWAC) 68-65 at G. Clark Activity Center in Baton Rouge, LA.

In the battle for bragging rights in Houston, No. 6 Prairie View A&M (9-9 SWAC) downed No. 8 Texas Southern (7-11 SWAC) to claim the game and the season series over its cross-town rivals.

In their annual season-ending showdown, Bethune-Cookman (8-10 SWAC) earned the No. 7 seed after dispatching Florida A&M (5-13 SWAC). The SWAC shared that it employed the league's tiebreaker policy to determine final seedings in the event of a tie in conference records.

SWAC MEN'S TOURNAMENT SCHEDULE

The men's tournament battles will begin as No. 2 Grambling will square off against No. 7 Bethune Cookman at 2 PM CT on March 8. No. 1 Alcorn State will meet last season's tournament champion and No. 8 Texas Southern at 8:30 PM CT to close out the first day of games.

On March 9, No. 3 Jackson State will face No. 6 Prairie View at 2 PM CT, and No. 4 Southern has an early re-match against No. 5 Alabama A&M at 8:30 PM CT.
