Tomekia Reed Reached 100th Win As Jackson State Torched LeMoyne-Owen

The Jackson State Tigers (1-0) women's basketball team torched the Lemoyne-Owen Magicians in its season opener.

Tomekia Reed and her Jackson State Tigers (1-0) women's basketball team torched the LeMoyne-Owen Magicians with a 113-39 victory in its home season opener at Lee E. Williams Athletic & Assembly Center. Coach Reed reached a milestone by winning her 100th game as a head coach. 

The Lady Tigers powered their way to a 55-19 first-half lead that was impossible for the Lady Magicians to overcome. Daphne White asserted her prowess by having a game-high 20 points and five rebounds in the win. Tilan Boler (16 points), Taylor Woodhouse (16 points), Madison Roshelle (13 points), and Miya Crump (11 points) were the other JSU players scoring in double figures. Jackson State's bench added 64 points to the Magician's 21 points on the evening.

LeMoyne-Owen was outmatched under the basket as the Tigers scored 58 to 8 points inside the paint. Jackson State outrebounded the visitors 55 to 18. Reed's squad were defensive stalwarts, holding LeMoyne-Owen to 15.8% scoring, and registered 38 points off of forced turnovers in the contest.

Tougaloo College will visit Jackson State on Wednesday, Nov. 15, for a 5:30 PM start at Lee E. Williams Athletics and Assembly Center. On Monday, Nov. 20, the Tigers will head to Hammond, LA, to play against Southeastern Louisiana University at noon. Following these three games, Reed will take her squad to San Juan, Puerto Rico, from Nov. 23-25 for the San Juan Shootout. The tournament will feature UCF, the University of Puerto Rico at Mayaguez, and St. John's University.
