HOUSTON — Former Texas Southern Tigers starting quarterback Andrew Body announced he's "100% healthy," and he admires the football programs at Florida A&M, Southern, and Prairie View on HBCU Football Coaches Corner with Coach Johnnie Cole and Rocky Miller.

Andrew Body was a standout athlete from the Corpus Christi area who defied the odds and found an opportunity at Texas Southern University. Over the past three seasons, one redshirted, Andrew relies on the support of his family, faith, and hard work to achieve his goals of playing Division I football and, ultimately, in the NFL.

Saturday night's conversation with Miller and the legendary Coach Johnnie Cole spoke volumes about why another team should knock on his door inside the transfer portal.

WHAT ANDREW BODY SAID...

  • Being Overlooked In Recruiting: "So, but, truthfully, I feel like I feel like God does everything for a reason. He put me at Texas Southern there for a reason."
  • Overcoming Challenges As A Freshman: "I kind of knew that I would have to respond to adversity and come back harder, essentially."
  • On HBCU Athletes: "Wherever I go. My main objective is to be literally highlighting HBCU athletes...For me, we have a lot of good people coming out of the SWAC."
  • Choosing the Right Coach: "Getting that coach that could really just take me there all the way to that level, out of what I already learned, that would be amazing."
  • On the Injury and Redshirting: "Because, truthfully, this made me a better person too. I had to learn how to put my feelings to the side...aside of how I feel about my situation and support my brothers on field."

During his tenure at Texas Southern, Andrew has completed 304 of 537 passes for 4,103 yards, 27 touchdowns, 13 interceptions, and a passer efficiency of 132.54. Andrew Body is a dual-threat weapon. He rushed 236 times for 1,287 yards and nine touchdowns in offensive coordinator David Marsh's system.

His final game with the Tigers was in the annual Labor Classic against Prairie View A&M. He completed 18 of 38 passes for 286 yards, three touchdowns, and three interceptions in the 37-34 OT loss to the Panthers.

After suffering a shoulder injury against Alabama A&M in the 2022 season finale, Body redshirted this season to heal. He has two years of NCAA eligibility remaining.

Before the Dec. 16 expiration date, Texas Southern's VP of Athletics, Dr. Kevin Granger, decided not to renew Coach Clarence McKinney's contract.
