HBCU Pigskin Showdown Reportedly Received Last-Minute Help From Mobile's Tourism Bureau

The Mobile, Alabama's tourism bureau assisted with helping the HBCU Pigskin Showdown organizers with hotel accommodations.

Visit Mobile's CEO David Clark told Fox 10 News that the tourism bureau spent thousands of dollars to rescue the HBCU Pigskin Showdown's organizers with hotel accommodations.

Clark shared that supporting the game "was the right thing to do," and the organization may never be reimbursed for the financial assistance.

The event organizers co-founders — Chris Williams and Brian Grove — contacted the Visit Mobile because the event needed financial support.  The organization paid over $29,000 to secure hotel rooms for the HBCU Pigskin Showdown.

Grove was arrested a few days before the game kicked off at Ladd-Peebles Stadium on Dec. 30, 2023.  Brian Grove was reportedly charged with "theft of property" from issuing worthless checks.

He is also involved in a lawsuit regarding a check for $9,860.00 for uniforms at last year's game in Selma, Alabama.
