The MEAC/SWAC Challenge halftime report from HBCU Legends on Sports Illustrated.

NCCU and Alcorn did not play a meaningful football game since 2019.

Alcorn had a difficult time finishing drives in the first half.  NCCU were more efficient inside the redzone with one touchdown.  The Eagles scored once, but failed on two red zone appearances.

PROS

  • Alcorn's struck first blood on their first drive of the ball game to lead 7-0.
  •  QB Harper to WR Anthony for a 20-yard TD play. with 10:25 in the 1st quarter after a 10 play drive.
  • Converted 4th and long.
  • NCCU defense able to create several stops on 3rd and one 4th down play.
  • The Eagles scored late in the first half
  • Braves 107 yards rushing on 18 attempts
  • Eagles QB Richard dove over the Braves defender for a 6 yard touchdown on a quarterback draw with 23 seconds on the clock.

CONS

  • Alcorn's QB Harper is having ball security issues with 2 first half fumbles.
  • Mannie Fresh reference with NCCU could not scoop-and-score off of Harper's fumble.
  • NCCU stalled on 3 drives with 3 punts.
  • Alcorn's miscues stall two drives and a failed FG.

EDGE

  • Alcorn's offense demonstrated they can effectively move the football.  
  • If they can eliminate the penalties and protect the football, the Braves can win.  However, the Eagles were not intimidated and moved the football with RB Totten.
