Alabama State was pinned on the two-yard-line and decided to run a jet-sweep with running back Ezra. Unfortunately, Ezra could not rush the football out of the endzone, fumbled out of bounds, and JSU scores a safety.

On the next drive, JSU took advantage of excellent field position. QB Jalon Jones' legs did most of the work on the possession. However, he threw a 17-yard touchdown to Corey Reed, Jr. K Glenn Misiak kicked the extra point for Tigers to take a 15-14 lead over the Hornets.

Jackson State's cornerback Warren intercepted a pass from ASU's Nettles. ASU running back Merrick was ejected because of a targeting penalty on the turnover. JSU moved within the Hornet's five-yard line.

Jackson State's Jones scored a three-yard touchdown, and the Tigers increased their lead. The two-point conversion attempt failed when Jones missed Reed in the endzone.
