3 Freshmen Make NCAA Tournament Debut

Freshman forwards Chris Cenac Jr. and Chase McCarty, alongside freshman guard Kingston Flemings all made their NCAA Tournament debut against the Idaho Vandals in the first round.

Flemings made his mark as he led all scorers in the game with 18 points on 75 percent shooting.

Cenac also made a huge impact, recording a career-high 18 rebounds in Houston’s 78-47 win against the Vandals.

Emanuel Sharp Catches Fire Against Idaho

Senior guard Emanuel Sharp has always been known as a sharp shooter, and he now holds the record for the most three-pointers made all time at the University of Houston.

In his final tournament, Sharp got hot early as he made three three-pointers in the first half to get the team out to a comfortable halftime lead.

The most memorable moment from Sharp in this game was the and-one three-pointer he drilled with just over 14 minutes to go in the first half to give Houston a one-point lead over Idaho.

The veteran guard went on to finish with 16 points, and he only missed one shot in the contest.

Cougars Cruise Past Aggies In Round of 32 Rematch

After a close 100-95 victory two season ago over Texas A&M in the Round of 32, the Cougars didn’t want that same result this year.

The game began as a close back-and-forth contest, with each team battling it out for tough points.

That was until the Cougars went on an 18-0 run in the first half that the Aggies could not recover from.

Houston went on to win 88-57 in a completely dominant victory over Texas A&M.

Sharp and Cenac were the standouts for Houston as they combined for 35 points, and sophomore guard Mercy Miller showed what he is capable of, scoring 12 points off the bench.

Chase McCarty Hot Streak

Easily one of the best moments of the tournament came in the final game in Houston’s tough loss to Illinois.

When everything seemed to be going south as the Fighting Illini jumped out to an 18-point lead in the second half, McCarty was not done yet and he made his impact on the game.

He drilled three clutch three-pointers to spark Houston’s last bit of offense they had left, and the Cougars brought the score within seven points.

While the Cougars ultimately fell short, Houston fans should look forward to whaat McCarty will do for the University of Houston in the coming years.
