Houston Adds Former Arizona State Safety From Transfer Portal in Surprise Move

The Houston Cougars have made a massive addition to the roster right before the start of the 2026 college football season.
Houston has signed Arizona State safety Myles "Ghost" Rowser, per reports from Matt Zenitz of 247Sports. He joins the Cougars after being granted an additional year of eligibility following the court ruling for 2022 recruits.
Rowser was an All-Big 12 Third Team selection at Arizona State last season.
Rowser started his college career at Campbell before emerging as one of the best safeties in Conference USA with New Mexico State in 2023. He then transferred to Arizona State where he spent the 2024 and 2025 seasons.
Myles Rowser Brings More Experience to Houston's Defense
During his first four years of college football, Rowser appeared in 52 games (41 starts) while posting 295 total tackles (174 solo), 8.5 tackles for loss, one sack, one forced fumble, two fumble recoveries, 14 pass breakups and two interceptions.
He also started in the College Football Playoff Quarterfinals at the Peach Bowl against Texas in 2024.
The fact that head coach Willie Fritz and the Cougars have managed to add this kind of experience to the roster this late in the offseason is a massive win for a Houston program that will be met with increased expecations this fall.
Despite his All-Big 12 prowess, Rowser's late arrival to the team means he will have to fight for spot in the starting lineup with players like Kentrell Webb and Jordan Allen.
But regardless of where he starts out the season on the depth chart, Rowser will likely be crucial toward any success Houston's defense has in 2026.
Houston's 2026 Transfer Portal Class
Rowser is a three-star portal prospect but that hardly signals the impact he could have for the Cougars.
He now joins an Houston portal class that features notable names at multiple positions.
Earlier this offseason, the Cougars landed portal commitments from players like wide receiver Tyson Turner (Texas Tech), defensive lineman Ashton Porter (Oregon), linebacker Jaden Yates (Ole Miss), running back Makhi Hughes (Oregon), wide receiver Trent Walker (Oregon State), cornerback Jalen Mayo (Stephen F. Austin), wide receiver Muizz Tounkara (Florida), tight end Patrick Overmyer (UTSA) and many more.
It remains to be seen if Rowser will be the most impactful among Houston's group of transfers but there's little doubt that he immediately becomes one of the best offseason additions for the Cougars.
Houston begins the 2026 season on Saturday, Sept. 5 against the Oregon State Beavers.
