In an offseason with complete turnover and craziness, one of Kansas and Bill Self’s final moves is bringing back a familiar face. The Jayhawks will now have three returning players on the roster as Kevin McCullar announced Wednesday that he would be using his extra year of eligibility to come back for a second season at KU.

McCullar tested the draft waters and participated in the NBA combine last week but didn’t necessarily stand out in the scrimmages and must have received feedback that he was going to be toward the bottom of the draft board.

Now, McCullar can earn good money in NIL while filling a missing piece for Kansas on the wing with his elite defense, length, and ability to get to the rim. If he can get his three-point shot more consistent, he will be a huge asset for the Jayhawks. His rebounding also shouldn’t be undersold.

McCullar averaged 10.7 points, seven rebounds, and two steals per game in his first season as a Jayhawk while starting all but one game and playing 30 minutes a night. KU now has one open scholarship remaining but could also choose to hold it and put it toward the self-imposed reduction in relation to the FBI investigation.
