The Kansas Jayhawks have made it a point to target some of the top players inside the state as they have attempted to lock down the state multiple times in the past so they can build a recruiting class around it.

One of the top recruits not only in the state but in the nation had some great things to say about the Jayhawks following his announcement of releasing a top 10 schools.

Dawson Merritt is a top 100 prospect in the nation. He plays linebacker at Blue Valley High School and measures in at around 6-foot-3 215 pounds. See what he had to say about the Jayhawks below.

“Kansas is a top school because it’s a hometown school that is a really hot program right now in terms of winning, and I also feel I’ve built great relationships with guys there,” Merritt stated to Blue Wings Rising.

“Coach Simpson and I have built a great relationship and then Kansas is a school where I talk to people from a lot of different departments which I think is really cool.”

“I haven’t locked in an official visit yet, but I’m looking to get up there for a practice sometime this spring!”

He has visited the Jayhawks in the past and has spoken really highly about them every time they are brought up.

Kansas, Nebraska, Texas A&M, Alabama, Missouri, USC, Oklahoma, Michigan, Ole Miss, and Florida State made his top ten schools.
