Kentucky signee shines in Kentucky State Championship game

Kentucky signee adds to historic high school career.

On Saturday Kentucky crowned a new team state champion and a future Kentucky Wildcat plays for the team that brought home that cherished title.

High School basketball is part of the framework of the Bluegrass State and hoisting the trophy in Rupp Arena is the goal of every team in the state every seaosn.

This year Lyon County was able to bring home the state title thanks to future Kentucky Wildcat Travis Perry. In the State Championship game Perry absolutely went off scoring 27 points as his team won 67-58 over Harlan County. The 6'2 170 pound guard is ranked as the 81st best player in the 2024 class according to 247Sports composite rankings.

Perry is the state of Kentucky's all-time leading scorer in high school basketball, and he added to his historic career with a big performance in the championship game.

Having watched Perry play in person he can handle the ball in big moments but will likely be a two in college rather than a true point guard. He moves without the basketball incredibly well which sets him up for lots of wide-open threes. Coach Calipari will be able to figure out how to get open shots for Perry with screens as he runs all around the floor.

Lyon County High School only has 293 students but thanks to Perry and some of the other star players this team was able to bring home the title. Perry will have a role for Kentucky next season but what that role is will be decided by how many players stay and leave from last season's roster and how many players Coach John Calipari adds via the portal.
