PODCAST: Can Kentucky end streak of not winning SEC regular season title?

SEC basketball is perhaps the best it has ever been, with programs like Alabama, Arkansas, Texas A&M, and Tennessee all producing teams capable of playing in the Elite Eight or Final Four the last few seasons.
On today's episode of Locked on College Basketball, hosts Andy Patton and Isaac Schade previewed the SEC ahead of the upcoming season, which included a discussion on if Calipari's team can break a three-year streak of not winning the regular season title, something that has not happened since Billy Gillespie's ill-fated two-year run as head coach from 2007-2009.
Kentucky has among the youngest teams in college basketball, playing in an era where many teams have 24 and 25-year-olds thanks to added eligibility from the shortened 2020-21 COVID campaign.
That, coupled with the growth of programs like Bama, A&M, and Arkansas, makes a regular season run for Calipari's group a tough one, although a rigorous non-conference slate that includes Kansas, North Carolina, and Miami should help prepare this young team before the conference season begins.
The status of Zvonimir Ivisic, as well as the health of Ugonna Onyenso and Aaron Bradshaw, will be a big factor for this team early in the season, and how everyone gels and adjusts to their role will determine if Kentucky can hold off experienced rosters in Knoxville and College Station to bring home a title and earn a favorable seed in March.
