What we learned from Kentucky's win over Mississippi State

What did we learn from the Kentucky Wildcats win over Mississippi State?

The Kentucky Wildcats offense exploded to score 90 points against a great Mississippi State defense.

The Wildcats took down the Bulldogs 90-77 in Rupp Arena to move to 3-1 in SEC play, bouncing back from the loss to Texas A&M. The Cats didn't have the best day shooting from outside going 7-23 from deep for a percentage of 22.2 but they were great shooting two pointers. The question now is what we learned from Kentucky's win over Mississippi State.

One thing we learned is this team can score on anybody. Mississippi State has a top-ten defense in all of college basketball, but the Cats still found a way to hit their season average, scoring 90 points. This gives me confidence that the Wildcats can score on anyone in the country. Another thing we learned is that Ugonna Onyenso is playing excellent basketball right now. Onyenso had three points but also pulled in six rebounds and blocked four shots. The seven-footer is one of the best shot blockers in all of college hoops. The last thing we learned is that this defense can get better. Coach Calipari said they are working hard to improve the defense, and you could see flashes against the Bulldogs. They still have a long way to go, but this team will be able to defend by March.

After the win over Mississippi State, Coach John Calipari had this to say about the defense, "Yeah. And it is a playing desperate. Are you willing to do that, or I'm too cool to play desperate, and you can't be in on this team? Because did you kind of see? It doesn't matter who the five are on offense. It really doesn't matter. We will score whatever five we put in. That means you better be rebounding, you better be defending, you better be talking, you better be connected to us, or I can play somebody else."

Kentucky just beat a really good Mississippi State team to pick up a quality Quad 2 win in front of Big Blue Nation.
