Will Ousmane N'Diaye be able to step up for Mark Pope and the Kentucky Wildcats?

Mark Mitchell will not be a Kentucky Wildcat after all, as he will be heading back to Missouri to play his fifth season of college hoops. This was a big blow for Mark Pope and the Kentucky Wildcats, but the reality is, next man up. The next man for the Kentucky Wildcats is Ousmane N'Diaye.

The Senegalese power forward has been playing pro ball in Italy, but this is his first taste of college basketball. As fans have seen over the years with international players, there is a learning curve that takes a few weeks/months to get past. That is what N'Diaye is in the middle of right now as he tries to learn the Pope system and adjust to this new style of basketball.

With Mitchell out of the picture there is a good shot that N'Diaye is going to start at the four for the Wildcats. The only way I could see him not is if Pope decided to move Milan Momcilovic over to the four and play Kam Williams at the three. Some don't want to see this happen because it would have an effect on Momcilovic's ability to shoot.

N'Diaye is struggling a bit to figure things out, but he has all of the intangibles to be a really good four this season. The most impressive part of N'Diaye's game is his ability to shoot the ball. He has a ton of confidence shooting that ball, and in the Pope system, this is important.

N'Diaye is also a freak athlete who can do some crazy things as a seven-footer. One of the big questions that I do have about N'Diaye is how he will be able to handle himself on the defensive end of the floor. He is a bit on the skinnier side, so BBN is hoping that he won't be getting pushed around on that end of the floor this season.

The reality here is that N'Diaye needs to be good for the Wildcats to hit their upside. After the Mitchell saga, N'Diaye has quickly become the most important player on the team. If he is great, Pope is going to have a really good team. If N'Diaye struggles, this team is going to have some big-time problems in the frontcourt. Hopefully, over the next few weeks, N'Diaye will be able to figure some more things out and be ready for his first season at Kentucky.
