3-Star Guard Joey Hart Commits to Kentucky, Becomes Seventh Freshman in 2023 Class

It's a new era of youth in the Bluegrass, even for John Calipari's standards.

Bring one freshman, bring them all.

Kentucky basketball's 2023 class continued to get bigger on Saturday, as 3-star shooting guard Joey Hart announced his commitment to the Wildcats, becoming the seventh freshman in coach John Calipari's 2023 class.

Hart is taking advantage of a big opportunity, joining the Wildcats as a late addition to an already star-studded No. 1 overall class that features four 5-stars, a 4-star and now two 3-stars.

Coming out of Linton-Stockton High School in Linton, Ind., Hart is the No. 268 overall player, No. 61 SG and No. 9 player in Indiana in the class, per the On3 Consensus.

Standing 6-foot-5, 185 pounds, Hart originally committed to Central Florida in August of 2022. Nine months later, he was released of his signed letter of intent. As Kentucky continued to strike out in the transfer portal, Hart continued to become more and more of an option for Calipari and his staff.

Hart was in Lexington for a visit last week, sealing the deal on his addition to a backcourt that will feature 5-star freshmen Rob Dillingham, DJ Wagner, 4-star freshman Reed Sheppard and sophomore Adou Thiero.

He joins 3-star forward Jordan Burks as a new arrival. Burks, who committed on June 12, is already on campus with the original group of five that compiled Calipari's seventh No. 1 recruiting class during his time at UK.

Now with seven freshmen and two sophomores on the roster, it's a new era of youth in the Bluegrass, even for Calipari.
