LSU Baseball: Tigers Secure Commitment From Top-100 Pitcher

LSU reels in a commitment from Mavrick Rizy, one of the top blue-chips left on the 2024 market.

Jay Johnson and the reigning National Champion LSU Tigers continue building a roster for the long haul after securing a commitment from Top-100 pitcher Mavrick Rizy on Monday.

The 6-foot-9 maestro on the mound gives Johnson and Co. another lethal weapon in their pitching rotation moving forward.

Rizy, a Massachusetts native, made the trip to Baton Rouge in early September, visiting Coach Johnson and the staff before ultimately coming to a decision.

The Tigers now land one of the top players left on the 2024 market in Rizy. With a fastball that has eclipsed 94 miles per hour as just a junior, the youngster has the chance to hit that next gear during his senior campaign.

LSU's 2024 recruiting class is shaping up to be another elite-level group for this program. Headlined by Mississippi native, and dynamic outfielder Konnor Griffin, the Tigers have strung together a talented unit this cycle.

With only five players pledged from Louisiana, Johnson and his staff elected to go nationally this cycle.

It isn't rare for Johnson to look elsewhere. A recruiting guru who understands the LSU brand, it's an easy sell, and if it means going across the country to bring the best talent to the boot, he's willing to do it.

Now, he's traveled up the east coast to Massachusetts to land one of the top players in America in Rizy.
