LSU Pitcher Chase Shores Out For The Season After Suffering Torn UCL

Shores became a key piece to the pitching rotation as a freshman, underwent surgery last week.

LSU right-handed pitcher Chase Shores has announced he will miss the remainder of the 2023 season after suffering a torn UCL. The freshman has been out for quite some time with a formal announcement being made on Tuesday.

The 6-foot-8, 250-pound right-handed pitcher wrote on Twitter:

“It is with a heavy heart that I announce my 2023 season has come to an end due to a UCL tear. I will miss my time competing at Alex Box, but I won’t let this injury stop me from being the best teammate and supporter for my boys as we close out the season. I will be back and better than ever.”

Shores came into the season as a major piece to this LSU pitching rotation. With a few freshman hiccups along the way, he took on more of a bullpen role, but excelled significantly.

Shores underwent surgery last week and will be out for the foreseeable future.

Coming out of high school, Perfect Game had him as a 10 rating, the highest rating in their process, putting him in the very high draft pick and elite college baseball prospect range. Shores also added 50 pounds to his frame and 13-15 miles per hour on his fastball in two years. His curveball and changeup are the two pitches he goes to most when on the mound.

Shores’ fastball is consistently clocked in the mid to high 90s and keeps batters off-balance with his incredible off-speed pitches. His arm paired with monstrous size gives LSU pitching coach Wes Johnson an ace to develop for the next few years.

LSU will now fallback on freshman Gavin Guidry and other key pieces out of the bullpen as they wind down SEC play and prepare for a postseason with high expectations.
