4-Star LB Xavier Atkins Shuts Down Recruitment, Locked In With LSU

Atkins confirms his commitment to the Tigers after visits elsewhere, shuts down the process.

Summer Creek (Tex.) linebacker Xavier Atkins has shut down his recruitment process and will remain pledged to the LSU Tigers after taking visits elsewhere over the last handful of months.

The 2024 four-star linebacker has been committed to the purple and gold since July of last year, and after taking several visits elsewhere, the sought-after prospect has reconfirmed his commitment to Brian Kelly and the Tigers.

Atkins had been expected in Baton Rouge at the end of July for LSU’s Bayou Splash recruiting event, but after making the decision to visit Texas A&M instead, it had experts in the industry believe he would flip his commitment to the Aggies.

Now, after taking time to evaluate his options and making a trip to Baton Rouge for the Arkansas game, Atkins has come to the decision to shut down the recruitment process and remain a Tiger with plans to sign in December.

Standing at 6-foot, 215-pounds, Atkins has great size for the linebacker position has he continues his standout senior campaign.

With tremendous strength and technique, it’ll be interesting to monitor his growth as he continues developing before heading to the next level.

Totaling 218 tackles – 28.0 for loss – and eight sacks in 13 games as just a sophomore, Atkins proved he has all the intangibles to compete in the SEC. Now, he has the chance to continue his success at the prep level before getting ready for Baton Rouge.

Atkins was the second pledge in LSU’s 2024 class, jumpstarting the cycle as a whole, and now looks to be a key piece to come in for next year.
