LSU passing game coordinator Joe Brady was nominated for the Broyles Award on Wednesday, an award that goes to the nation's top assistant coach.

Brady is in his first year with the program after being hired away from the New Orleans Saints during the offseason by coach Ed Orgeron. Brady along with offensive coordinator Steve Ensminger have completely revamped the LSU offense, finally converting to the spread, which was Orgeron's plan two years ago.

The move has done wonders for the Tigers, who have averaged 46.7 points per game and 538.4 yards per game, both ranked fourth nationally. Brady has helped unlock a side of LSU quarterback Joe Burrow that most didn't know was possible as the senior is the Heisman frontrunner and on pace to break every single-season school record there is.

The list of 41 nominees will be broken down to 15 semifinalists and then five finalists, with the winner being announced on Dec. 10. Former defensive coordinator John Chavis is the only LSU assistant to win the Broyles Award for the 2011 season according to the Advocate.

It was reported last week that the 30-year-old coach is in contract negotiations but Orgeron said Monday any negotiations wouldn't be finalized "until after the season."
