Live Game Day Update/Thread: No. 2 LSU at Mississippi State

Pregame

Brooks Kubena of the Advocate reported that receiver Terrace Marshall was dressed out but likely isn't going to play. Orgeron said that the sophomore wouldn't play and would be re-evaluated next week.

Something to follow: quarterback Joe Burrow is four touchdowns from breaking the LSU single season record for passing touchdowns. Follow along for updates.

Captains: Lloyd Cushenberry, Jacob Phillips, Damien Lewis, Racey McMath.

LSU wins the toss, defers to the second half. Bulldogs will start with the ball.

First Quarter

Rashard Lawrence and Glen Logan start at defensive end for the Tigers. Bulldogs start with a 5-yard run up the middle. Shrader picks up first down on the next play.

LSU stuffs Mississippi State on third down. Bulldogs go for it and the Tigers stuff em on back-to-back plays. Tiger offense to take over in Bulldog territory after the break.

Joe Burrow starts the day with 3-yard completion to Thaddeus Moss, Edwards-Helaire brought down trying to break to the outside. Third down coming up.

Burrow completes a big pass to Justin Jefferson, who gets inside  the 25-yard line.

Burrow has completed four passes to four different receivers on this drive. LSU faces third-and-goal from the two yard line.

LSU settles for a field goal on the first drive. York drills the chip-shot. Looked like Ja'Marr Chase was held on that third-down pass to the endzone.

Grant Delpit puts a strong hit on Shrader to force 3rd-and-5. Four tackles already for Delpit. 

Mississippi State doing a nice job of controlling the clock in the first quarter. Didn't realize there's only 3:40 to go in the first quarter. Bulldogs have had the ball for 7:03 so far.

Shrader converts on 3rd-and-1 to keep the ball, now in LSU territory.

Man Delpit is all over the field these first two drives. Now has six tackles in the first quarter LSU forces Bulldogs to punt.

End 1: LSU 3, Mississippi State 0 Bulldogs control the clock for 9:41, keeping the Tiger offense off the field.

Second Quarter

Burrow connects with Thaddeus Moss on back-to-back plays and the Tigers are inside the Bulldog 10-yard line.

On 3rd-and-goal, Burrow has Derrick Dillon in the endzone but Dillon drops the ball. Tigers have to settle for another Cade York field goal

Scoring Update: LSU 6, Mississippi State 0

Bulldogs fumble, picked up by Rashard Lawrence. Big time swing there for the LSU defense. Michael Divinity forced the fumble. 

Back-to-back personal fouls on the Bulldogs has LSU inside the 10-yard line again. On the next play Burrow is sacked and right tackle Austin Deculus is down on the field. Looks like he got rolled up on and is in some serious pain.

Adrian Magee in at right tackle, Ed Ingram left guard. LSU is held again in the redzone by the Bulldog defense. Fourth and goal coming up for the Tigers.

Cade York connects on his third field goal of the afternoon. The freshman now 3-for-3 on the afternoon.

That was great defense, better offense and Shrader has the Bulldog offense inside the LSU 30-yard line.

Garrett Shrader scores from 12 yards out and this is a 9-7 ball game. Personal foul on JaCoby Stevens on third down helped set up the Bulldog offense to score on that possession.

Edwards-Helaire gets a face mask call on the ensuing kick return. LSU will start with the ball at the 40-yard line.

Big hitter Racey McMath. That was fast LSU scores on a 60-yard touchdown from Burrow to McMath Tigers lead 15-7. York misses the extra point

Cordale Flott in the game for injured Kristian Fulton, who is favoring his left arm after making a tackle.

Wow. One-handed pick for JaCoby Stevens, making up for that personal foul call on the last drive. What a play that was. Tiger offense back on the field at the 45-yard line.

Joe Burrow scrambles for a 12-yard gain and then completes a pass to Justin Jefferson. LSU has first-and-goal.

Touchdown. Burrow-->Ja'Marr Chase for the ninth time this season. Burrow one TD away from tying Jamarcus Russell and Matt Mauck for single season record.

Half: LSU 22, Mississippi State 7 

Tigers pull away with two touchdown passes from Burrow in final five minutes of first half. Grant Delpit with game-high eight first half tackles.

Third Quarter

LSU offense goes three and out to start the third quarter. Burrow sacked on second down and can't convert on third down.

Michael Divinity with a sack on Shrader on third down. Tiger defense forces a three-and-out. Has also forced a fumble today.

Joe Burrow with back-to-back completions to Ja'Marr Chase sets LSU up in Bulldog territory.

Burrow ties the LSU single season touchdown record with a 45-yard touchdown to Derrick Dillon. Hit him in stride and Tigers lead 29-7

Scoring Update: LSU 29, Mississippi State 7 

JaCoby Stevens follows up that interception in the first half with a great stop on third down to force another Bulldog punt. Tiger defense on a roll here this afternoon.

Burrow and company to start at the 25-yard line as punt goes through the endzone.

LSU offense wearing out Mississippi State defense now. Tigers inside the Bulldog 40-yard line. Burrow takes deep shot to Sullivan incomplete but there's defensive PI.

Joe Burrow broke the LSU record for touchdowns in a single season with an 18-yard strike to junior Justin Jefferson. It's the ninth time the duo has hooked up for a touchdown this season.

Fourth Quarter

LSU defense holds Bulldogs without points to start fourth quarter. Tiger offense takes over.

Myles Brennan in for Joe Burrow at quarterback. Burrow finished with four touchdowns for 327 yards on better than 78 % completion percentage.

Brennan and the offense can't get anything going for a second consecutive possession.
