LSU CB Commit Zion Ferguson Locked In With LSU

Ferguson remains "10 toes down" on his commitment to the purple and gold, continues working through recruitment process.

LSU commit Zion Ferguson put the country on notice after a big-time junior campaign. The Georgia native has seen his status elevate after dominating his competition in 2022, but as he continues working through the offseason, he’s ready to take on a bigger role ahead of his senior year.

The 2024 cornerback has seen his ranking trend upward, but he’s more focused on developing his game for the next level. After committing to Brian Kelly and Co. in September, it’s been all about putting in work to be ready once he touches down in Baton Rouge.

After transferring high schools, Ferguson is dialed in. He’s embraced the culture and is locked in on becoming the best version of himself before he ends his high school career.

Transitioning to Gainesville

Ferguson made the move from Grayson High School to Gainesville High School an hour down the road this offseason. A place where he can continue developing his game and still take on a major workload, Ferguson has fallen in love with his new home since arriving.

“It’s a culture here. Everything here is a family. We work on the system here. Everything we do is a system. Everybody has it implemented that we move the same way,” Ferguson told Dawgs Daily’s Brooks Austin.

“It’s a confidence thing. The way we practice out here is almost like a college format. It’s definitely getting us ready for this year to go to state and for the physicality of college.”

Gainesville went 14-1 a season ago, and after asserting themselves as a premier program in the state of Georgia, to add a player of Ferguson’s caliber makes them that much scarier moving forward.

Improvement Ahead of Senior Year

There are certain pieces Ferguson hopes to improve on most this offseason, but getting his overall game polished is of the utmost importance.

It’s all about being a complete player in the SEC, and with Ferguson understanding the ins and outs of the college game, he knows he has to be 100% ready once he gets to campus.

“I’m trying to improve everything. Going into college everything has to be sharp because they’re always looking for new replacements and you’re always trying to beat somebody out. So really everything. The full package," Ferguson said.

LSU Commitment

Ferguson committed to the Tigers in September as he kept LSU’s hot streak on the recruiting trail rolling. One of the first players to announce his pledge to Kelly’s program in the 2024 class, he remains locked in with the culture being built in Death Valley.

“I’m still 10 toes down with LSU. It’s still my dream school. I’m really looking forward to my official visit,” Ferguson said.

Certainly programs are itching to get Ferguson on campus this summer, and he’ll take his fair share of visits, but he’s remained loyal to the Tigers throughout his process.

A player who has the intangibles of keeping the “DBU” style of play going down South, he has the chance to be special once his time comes.

Schools Battling For Ferguson

North Carolina has been a force in Ferguson’s recruitment thus far. He locked in his official visit with the Tar Heels where he’ll travel up the road from June 23-25 for a weekend stay.

An offer list that includes SEC schools such as Arkansas, South Carolina and Tennessee, among others, the services of Ferguson are in high demand as he enters his senior season.

For now, he’s dialed in with the Tigers, but this program will certainly have to keep their foot on the gas to keep the high-rising cornerback committed to LSU.

Cornerbacks coach Robert Steeples has been the primary recruiter for Ferguson. A player with tremendous upside, it’s a given he’ll remain in the ear of the Georgia native as his recruitment process heats up in a big way.
