For LSU commit Davhon Keys, the future Tiger was ready to end the recruitment process and lock in for his senior season. It’s been a long time coming for the Texas native, who has seen schools from all over the country extend a scholarship offer his way, but a quick trip to Baton Rouge made the decision easy for him.

The Aledo (Tex.) product has exploded on the recruitment scene after a productive junior campaign, but there was just something different in the Death Valley air once he made his way to town.

“I had been to LSU when I was younger, running indoor track, and I got to see the campus before. But getting to see it a second time from a recruit stand point made everything about the campus much more exciting,” Keys said. “On top of that, Coach [Matt] House and Coach [Brian] Kelly are amazing coaches and I feel that they will set me up properly for the future.”

Keys adds a different element to this 2024 recruiting class. He brings another linebacker LSU’s way, yes, but there’s an “it” factor about the Lone Star State talent. Despite the Tigers securing four linebackers to the class so far, Keys feels he can be different than the rest in a few ways.

It isn’t his speed. It isn’t his power. It’s his versatility that can provide this defense with something fresh moving forward in a talented SEC.

“I believe my versatility will add an unique aspect to the defense,” Keys said. “Being able to do so many things at a high level will make things harder on the offenses we face and will overall improve the team.”

But as for the 2024 recruiting class as a whole, he joins a star studded group. Brian Kelly and Co. have 11 players committed so far with the anticipation this unit can reach elite level by the time next fall comes around.

As it stands, the Tigers sit with the No. 2 overall recruiting class in the 2024 cycle, but the spring recruitment period just started this month. Keys feels they’re just scratching the surface and will get hot in a hurry, and as for right now he hasn’t specifically reached out to recruits, but the connections will form soon.

“I'm confident in the recruiting class and I feel like we have many high quality guys who are ready to compete. As of now, I haven’t attempted to push for any players yet.”

What stuck out most about LSU? Brian Kelly. The immediate success. The vision. It all played a role into what led Keys to Baton Rouge.

“Seeing how well Coach Kelly did in his first year gives me a lot of hope for the future, and I’m sure we will be competing for a national championship soon,” Keys said of the decision.

Kelly and the Tigers have a good one headed to Death Valley, and as the youngster continues developing as a player ahead of his senior campaign, the sky’s the limit for the Lone Star State product ready to make an impact for LSU sooner rather than later.
