LSU Football: CB Javien Toviano Embracing Year 1 in Baton Rouge

Toviano continues taking on a major role on defense, thrown in the fire as a true freshman.

LSU cornerback Javien Toviano has taken a major leap in his first season in Baton Rouge.

A player Brian Kelly and the coaching staff had on "redshirt watch" after a handful of games, Toviano was thrown into the fire as a starter down the stretch.

Since then, the true freshman has been a key component to this secondary.

Toviano has embraced the challenges of Year 1 at LSU, and despite the defense struggling at times, he understands there's light at the end of the tunnel.

“It’s really just a next play mentality,” Toviano said. “You’re not going to win at the line every time. You’re not going to deflect the ball every time. There are going to be times when the offense makes a play and you just have to keep moving forward and not getting too wrapped up in the last play that just happened, good or bad.”
