LSU Football Grades: How the Tigers Offense Performed Against Auburn

Jayden Daniels and Co. do it again, shine versus a talented Auburn defense in Tiger Stadium.

The LSU offense has looked virtually unstoppable through the first seven games of the season, and after another week of putting up over 500 yards, it was just another day at the office for this group.

Jayden Daniels and Co. torched the Auburn defense from start to finish after a complete game through all four quarters.

The Grades from Saturday:

The Quarterback: A+

Jayden Daniels… There aren’t many words to describe what Daniels has done to this point in the season. He’s putting up Joe Burrow numbers through seven games and answering all of the questions evaluators had about his game. From improving in his decision-making to thriving with the deep ball, Daniels is piecing together a Heisman season for the Tigers. On Saturday, it was much of the same from LSU's QB1:

  • 20/27 passing
  • 3 touchdowns
  • 74% completion percentage
  • 1 interception
  • 93 rushing yards

The Running Backs: A

Logan Diggs… Diggs has emerged as LSU’s RB1 this season with the Notre Dame transfer unlocking the rushing attack for this program. When Brian Kelly pursued Diggs in the portal, it was assumed he’d take over starting back duties and he’s done just that. In six games this season, Diggs is up to 595 yards and five touchdowns on nearly five yards per carry. Efficient, solid season for Diggs so far with his success carrying into the Auburn matchup. Diggs ended the night with 97 yards and a score in Tiger Stadium.

Josh Williams… The emergence of Diggs has limited the production of veteran back Josh Williams. He’s only carried the ball 19 times this season for 161 yards and two touchdowns, but his leadership rubs off on his teammates. Saturday was another impactful day for Williams after getting in the end zone for LSU.

Wide Receivers: A

Malik Nabers… It’s just another day at the office for Nabers every time he steps on the field. He’s been consistent, reliable and efficient for LSU through seven games. 52 receptions for 860 yards and seven touchdowns for Nabers on his way to another 1,000 yard season for the Tigers. He’s been phenomenal. Against Auburn, it was another impressive night after tallying six receptions for 89 yards and a score.

Brian Thomas Jr… The emergence of junior wideout Brian Thomas Jr. has been a game changer for LSU. He’s unlocked this unit and allowed them to thrive when Nabers is double teamed. Through six games, Thomas led the nation in receiving touchdowns with nine. He’s also on his way to a 1,000 yard season. Thomas has made himself some money this season, but Saturday was slow. In turn, we saw second-year Tiger Kyren Lacy step up with four receptions and 111 yards with a score of his own.

Tight Ends: B

Mason Taylor… Taylor hasn’t been relied on as much this season with the balanced offensive attack taking place. Daniels has fallen back on his receivers to carry the load through the air, but nonetheless, Taylor has produced. On Saturday, Brian Kelly made sure to get the ball in his youngsters hands in order to get back in a rhythm. Efficient night for Taylor.

Offensive Line: A

The LSU offense will only go as far as the offensive line allows them to. With Will Campbell, Garrett Dellinger, Charles Turner, Miles Frazier and Emery Jones returning, the Tigers brought back their starters and they have shined. This group is on pace to be in the running for one of the top o-line units in America, but LSU saw Jones go down with an ankle sprain on Saturday, thrusting true freshman Zalance Heard in the mix. A few mistakes were made, as expected from a youngster, but Heard ended the day with a high grade. Another big night from the o-line.
