The decision is in for four-star cornerback Cai Bates. The Florida native will take his talents to Baton Rouge and join the LSU Tigers as they add another key piece to their secondary in the 2024 class.

It’s a monstrous get for Brian Kelly and Co. as this program heats up on the recruiting trail in a big way. LSU secured a pledge from four-star linebacker Tylen Singleton on Saturday, and with the Bayou Splash event coming up this weekend, the Tigers are setting the tone early.

Bates, the No. 9 rated cornerback in the 2024 class, quickly became a top target for the LSU coaching staff over the summer. After getting the coveted defensive back to Death Valley in June, it set the table for a commitment just weeks later.

But it wasn’t an easy decision for Bates. It was a battle down the stretch between LSU and Tennessee with the Tigers ultimately getting the job done in the 11th hour.

Bates took visits to LSU, Tennessee, Florida State and Alabama this summer on his way to revealing his college decision. A player who is just scratching the surface, many are prepared to see a huge senior season from the electrifying corner where his ranking could continue trending positively.

The LSU Tigers are now up to 20 commitments in the 2024 cycle as they prepare for a big weekend on the recruiting trail. With the Bayou Splash event taking place on Friday, July 28, it’s quickly become the biggest weekend of the summer for this program.

Kelly and his staff will welcome a deep list of 2024 and 2025 recruits to campus, headlined by five-star EDGE Colin Simmons and priority target Caden Durham. Durham, a four-star running back in the 2024 class, will reveal his college decision on August 25.

It’s a huge stretch for the Tigers over the next few weeks and to get a major domino to fall in Cai Bates is a win for this program.

We’ve seen LSU attack the secondary in the 2024 class with commitments from:

  • Four-star safety Dashawn McBryde
  • Four-star cornerback Ondre Evans
  • Four-star cornerback Ju’Juan Johnson
  • Four-star safety Joel Rogers
  • Three-star cornerback Wallace Foster

The work continues for Kelly and his staff, but as July winds down, this program sits in a fantastic position with several priority targets as fall inches closer.
