LSU Football: Tigers Land Commitment From Coveted CB PJ Woodland

LSU successfully flips the former Mississippi State pledge, add to a position of need in the 2024 class.

LSU has secured another commitment in the 2024 class with Brian Kelly and Co. reeling in coveted athlete PJ Woodland.

Woodland, a Mississippi native, will play cornerback at the next level with the Tigers now adding a key player to a position of need.

After backing off of his pledge to Mississippi State earlier this month, Woodland wastes no time in revealing his commitment to the Tigers. A player who was trending towards the Ole Miss Rebels, LSU once again got him back down to campus with this program ultimately sealing the deal.

Woodland was in Baton Rouge for the Tigers’ victory over Auburn last weekend before making the trek back to Louisiana for the Week 8 contest against Army.

Now, he’s a Tiger.

The 6-foot, 160-pounder fills a void in this LSU defense for the future with those within the program intrigued with his long-term potential. Woodland is in the midst of an impressive senior campaign with his Oak Grove program handling business.

LSU continues looking to add defensive backs for the future after losing a pledge from four-star cornerback Ondre Evans this week.

The latest on the cornerback room:

Flipped: Ondre Evans

Earlier in the week, Evans to Georgia became a real possibility, and after a midweek visit to Athens, it busted the door wide open for a flip, sources tell LSU Country. Now, he's officially announced his commitment to the National Champions.

Evans is the No. 1 overall player in the state of Tennessee with Kirby Smart and his staff stealing a major SEC target once again. With the Tigers in constant contact with Evans, the Tennessee native now makes a major splash on the recruiting trail.

The 6-foot, 185-pounder has been a fast-rising prospect in the 2024 class. With his body beginning to fill out, he’s seen it take his game to a new level. Evans became one of the highest risers in the recent 247Sports recruiting rankings, going from unranked nationally to No. 106.

The Flip Target: Bernard Causey

Ole Miss commitment Bernard Causey is at the top of LSU's "wish list" when it comes to adding another cornerback to the 2024 class. It's a position of need, and for Causey, he's a guy whose stock is rising at a rapid rate.

Experts within the industry believe LSU ultimately wins out here for Causey's services, and with Evans now out of the picture in the current cycle, it's a must this program locks down the in-state defensive back.

LSU will turn up the heat for Causey in a big way now. We expect traction to gain in this area sooner rather than later.

The Commitments:

- Ju'Juan Johnson (four-star cornerback)

- Cai Bates (four-star cornerback)

- PJ Woodland (three-star cornerback)

- Wallace Foster (three-star cornerback)
