The legend of No. 7 continues this season, but who will wear the jersey next?

The history surrounding the legendary No. 7 jersey goes on and on in Baton Rouge, and as LSU gears up for the 2023 season, another Tiger will be up next.

From Patrick Peterson to Leonard Fournette to Tyrann Mathieu, it’s become an honor to wear the jersey that’s been coveted for so many years.

Who could be next? The Tigers are set to get fall camp started in less than two weeks with the reveal coming sooner rather than later.

A look into a few LSU stars who could wear the jersey next:

Malik Nabers

The junior wideout took the country by storm during his second season in Baton Rouge and has the chance to take a major leap in Year 3. A player who checks all the boxes to wear No. 7, Nabers could be in line to wear it in 2023.

We saw wide receiver Kayshon Boutte wear the jersey in 2022 in an underwhelming season, but with all attention moving to 2023, Nabers could be a player to reenergize the significance of the No. 7 jersey.

It’s rare to see an offensive player receive the honor after the likes of Peterson, Mathieu and Grant Delpit represented it in such a way, but after seeing Leonard Fournette, DJ Chark and more do their part, Nabers could be the next skill position player to earn the coveted number.

Nabers enters the season as The Athletic’s No. 2 wide receiver in the 2024 NFL Draft. With high hopes heading into the year, the junior wideout could be up next.

Greg Brooks Jr.

Brooks is a player who certainly fits the mold for who should wear No. 7 in Death Valley. A Louisiana native who plays a major role in the Tigers secondary, Brooks, like Nabers, checks all of the boxes.

He took his talents to Baton Rouge a season ago after transferring in from Arkansas along with his partner in crime, Joe Foucha. Electing to return for another year, Brooks has high hopes as he enters his final season for the Tigers.

We’ve seen Louisiana natives traditionally wear the legendary number and Brooks could be in line to do the same in 2023. An in-state defensive back, the hard-hitting safety has a case to be up next.

Harold Perkins

Of course, sophomore linebacker Harold Perkins has proven to be one of the top defensive players in the entire nation, and has the chance to wear the coveted number.

A player who burst on the scene as a freshman, many were prepared to say he was the best linebacker in college football as just an 18 year old. A household name as he enters Year 2 in Baton Rouge, Perkins is certainly a player in the mix to wear the jersey.

Coming off of a freshman campaign where the former five-star prospect totaled 72 tackles, four forced fumbles and an interception, the youngster has the chance to explode in his second season in Baton Rouge.
