Brian Kelly and his LSU Tigers returned to the practice fields as Fall Camp continues in Baton Rouge.

It was another productive day for this program with the starting rotation beginning to fully take shape.

Denver Harris was absent once again for the Tigers and Brian Kelly has officially updated the status of his cornerback:

“Denver is handling some personal matters and if he takes care of everything we could have him back this weekend.”

Here are the notes from Wednesday’s practice:

Quarterbacks

  • Jayden Daniels was sharp in the red zone on Wednesday. He connected with Malik Nabers and Kyren Lacy in the end zone for a score before hitting Aaron Anderson on a drag route after.
  • Daniels continues to be in midseason form with Malik Nabers and it was on full display once again on Wednesday. The two connected for two touchdowns during red zone work.
  • Rickie Collins delivered a beautiful ball to the back corner of the endzone to Shelton Sampson Jr. A pass that may have been his best ball of fall camp, he’s coming into his own.
  • Collins did miss a few throws, but freshman hiccups are expected. It was a beneficial sight to see him make a few big-time throws.

Running Backs

  • Josh Williams, Armoni Goodwin and Logan Diggs were all sidelined on Wednesday.
  • Josh Williams was off to the side doing individual work.
  • Diggs and Goodwin were on the bikes.
  • Noah Cain continues taking first team reps with John Emery also getting into the mix with the other backs absent.
  • Trey Holly came up with a beautiful catch on the right side of the field during 7-on-7.

Wide Receivers

  • It was another big day for Malik Nabers. He’s hitting his stride in a big way during the backend of camp and continues receiving rave reviews from his peers. Nabers reeled in two touchdowns during 7-on-7 work towards the end of the day.
  • Brian Thomas Jr. had a huge day on Wednesday. He came up with a few big catches from Jayden Daniels as the two continue developing their relationship.
  • Chris Hilton Jr. secured a few catches from Garrett Nussmeier.
  • Aaron Anderson and Kyren Lacy will be battling it out for key snaps in the slot. On Wednesday, the two rotated in and out.

Offensive Line

  • LT Will Campbell, RG Garrett Dellinger, C Charles Turner, RG Miles Frazier and RT Emery Jones.
  • Marlon Martinez rotating in at center.
  • Mason Lunsford was sidelined on Wednesday. He was seen on the bike in the corner.
  • Lance Heard continues holding his own during 1-on-1 work.

Defensive Line

  • Maason Smith got rolled up on a drill towards the end of the day. He immediately went to the locker room to get evaluated before coming back onto the field for the final period.
  • Mekhi Wingo is making a big impact during camp and Wednesday was much of the same.
  • Not much too report on the defensive line other than Smith’s injury scare.

Linebackers

  • Harold Perkins and Omar Speights will be an intriguing one-two punch at the second level. On Wednesday, they continued to hold their own during 7-on-7 action.
  • Greg Penn III will play a key role for this defense.
  • Limited notes on the linebackers on Wednesday.

Cornerbacks

  • Zy Alexander and Duce Chestnut continue working with the 1’s at cornerback with Ashton Stamp getting his fair share of reps with the first team.
  • Alexander came up with a few pass breakups on Wednesday. He continues to impress in a big way, even while guarding Malik Nabers.
  • Chestnut is a fiery, passionate player and it continues being shown during camp. On Wednesday, he came up with a few pass break ups of his own.
  • Alexander, Chestnut and Stamps have separated themselves as the three corners who will make an immediate impact.
  • Sage Ryan has also been taking reps with the cornerbacks.

Safeties

  • It was a three-safety look for LSU on Wednesday. Major Burns, Greg Brooks and Andre Sam all took on a major role.
  • Brooks worked closer to the line of scrimmage. It was a big spot for him on Wednesday.
  • Not much to report with this group.

Special Teams

  • Aaron Anderson and Kyle Parker took a majority of the reps at punt returner.
  • Anderson looks the part each and every time with the ball in his hands.
  • Parker muffed a punt on Wednesday. Freshman hiccups are expected, but Kelly will take no chances with his special teams this season. Will be interesting to see Parker’s role in this area as a return specialist.
