Georgia native Marcus Mascoll is in the midst of a monster offseason after putting his name on the map during his junior campaign. The 2024 offensive lineman continues getting the attention of SEC programs, and after an official visit to LSU over the weekend, he’s trimmed his list.

Mascoll released his Top 3 schools on Monday with LSU, Florida and North Carolina State making the cut. It was a decision the Sunshine State native was prepared to make with a commitment date inching closer and closer.

After a productive official visit, Mascoll is high on the Tigers and the plan offensive line coach Brad Davis has put in front of him, but it’ll be a fight down the stretch for his services.

With two more official visits taking place over the next two weeks for Mascoll, LSU will keep their foot on the gas to make their final push.

We caught up with Mascoll to dive into his final three schools, the latest trip to Baton Rouge and when he will make his commitment decision:

LSU in Top 3

LSU, Florida and North Carolina State are the finalists for Mascoll as a decision date nears and the Tigers are firmly in the mix thanks to Coach Davis’ savvy recruiting ways. The relationship the two have formed over the last few months puts LSU right in the mix.

“I really like Coach [Brad] Davis and the entire staff over there,” Mascoll told LSU Country. “They really have a plan for me and showed me that plan. It’s really great to see that they believe in me and want to take me to that next level.

“[The relationship] is definitely great with Coach Davis. He jokes around with his players and is a coach you can just go talk to about anything, but once it’s football mode, it’s time to lock in. He’s just great to be around.”

Davis has proven to be a lethal recruiter on the trail. From locking in a pair of five-stars over the last two years in Will Campbell and Zalance Heard to dipping into the transfer portal and adding Maryland transfer Mason Lunsford, his track record is impressive with Mascoll being his latest target.

The LSU Visit

Mascoll took his official visit to LSU from June 2-4 where he had dinner in Tiger Stadium and took a photoshoot with other recruits, but more importantly, he had time to sit back and talk with Brian Kelly about his future.

“It was an amazing time. We did the photoshoot once we got there Friday then we had dinner in Tiger Stadium,” Mascoll said “I got some time with some of the players, they are all great dudes. On Saturday I got to tour the campus and check out the academic center so it was a lot that happened but it was a great experience.

“I never imagined myself actually being there. It was crazy seeing the skyline, you feel like you’re on top of the world. It’s a surreal feeling.”

Relationship With Brian Kelly

On Sunday, it was strictly business for Mascoll. He talked to the man in charge all day about how the Tigers plan to use him, how they can get him to the next level and more.

Coach Davis will play a major role in Mascoll’s recruitment, but at the end of the day, Coach Kelly calls the shots and the prized offensive lineman understands that.

“I got to talk to [Kelly] all Sunday. He’s a great guy. He believes in me, and he calls the shots, so it means a lot for him to believe in my development. I have a lot to improve on and he believes in it so that's what I like the most,” Mascoll said.

LSU Battling Against Florida and North Carolina State

It’ll be a dog fight for LSU down the stretch in Mascoll’s recruitment. He’ll take an official visit to Florida from June 9-11 and then hit the road to visit North Carolina State June 16-18.

What specifically sticks out about both programs? Once again, it’s their belief in what Mascoll can evolve in and prepare him for the next level.

“Coach Napier is a great guy and he believes in me too. He said I’m a hidden gem so that means a lot coming from him. They’re all great dudes. The overall scenery of Florida and Gainesville, it’s a great area," Mascoll said.

For North Carolina State, the proof is in the product. Head Coach Dave Doeren has put offensive linemen in the NFL and Mascoll has seen what they can do in the ACC.

“It’s a different scenery compared to Florida and LSU, but mainly the coaching staff sticks out," Mascoll said. "Coach Doeren has put a lot of guys in the NFL so that’s definitely in my consideration. It just means a lot from Coach Doeren, Brian Kelly and Coach Napier believing in me, they believe they can take me to that next level.”

The Commitment Timeline

Mascoll will make his college announcement on June 19 following his final visit to North Carolina State. After going back-to-back-to-back on official visits from LSU to Florida to North Carolina State, Mascoll will have a decision made that Monday to reveal where he will be taking his talents.

With a key focus in development, relationships and continuity, Mascoll is ready to knock out his final two official visits before making his decision and shutting down the recruitment process with LSU squarely in the mix.
