Scouting Report: What Ory Williams' Commitment Means For LSU

The Tigers reeled in the high-upside 2024 OT on Sunday, another weapon for Brian Kelly's program.

LSU picked up a commitment from fast-rising offensive tackle Ory Williams on Sunday after the Texas native made his way to Baton Rouge for the Tigers Bayou Splash event over the weekend.

Williams, who’s been a priority target for offensive line coach Brad Davis, revealed his pledge to the Tigers over Florida, Oklahoma State and Texas A&M, among others.

Friday’s trip to Death Valley marked the second time this summer the three-star offensive tackle has been on campus after taking his official visit back in June. Following the first visit, it was all LSU with Brian Kelly’s staff taking control of his recruitment.

Now, Williams is a Tiger and gives Coach Davis his third offensive line commit in the 2024 cycle.

What is LSU getting in their latest pledge?

A dive into Williams’ game and how he can make an impact for the Tigers moving forward:

High-Upside

The 6-foot-7, 300-pound menace already attains the adequate size to play SEC ball, but factor in the development skills Coach Davis attains, and Williams has the chance to be a big-time producer for the Tigers.

Williams’ athleticism is a piece of his game that stands out most when watching film. The quick feet gives him an advantage more times than not while utilizing his balance to stay in front of the defense.

For Kelly and Davis, Williams is the type of player that can learn quickly and be an impact guy sooner rather than later. It’ll be interesting to see if LSU utilizes his versatility and allows him to play inside as well.

Length, Twitchiness

When you look at a picture of Williams, his arm length jumps right off of the page. He’s filled in his frame with good weight, but the physical tools he attains are unique given what could be down the line.

Williams will continue putting on more muscle as time goes on, and as his strength improves, the sky’s the limit. An under-the-radar prospect with big-time upside, LSU is getting a good one in the San Marcos (Tex.) native.

Young Talent in 2024 Class, Targets on Radar

Williams is offensive line commit No. 3 in the 2024 class with the Tigers also holding verbal pledges from Top 100 prospect Ethan Calloway and Louisiana native Khayree Lee.

Coach Davis continues working his magic on the recruiting trail with two other major targets on his radar.

LSU rolled out the red carpet for high-priority 2024 target Blake Ivy on Friday in what could become an LSU vs. Texas A&M battle for his services. The Texas native has made his way to A&M on several occasions with the Aggies turning up the heat even more recently.

Along with Ivy, the Tigers have begun their push for Georgia native Elyjah Thurmon in the 2024 class. Thurmon made his way to Baton Rouge for Bayou Splash and the Tigers extended an offer during the visit.

Look for LSU to put its foot on the gas for Thurmon while maintaining talks with Ivy as Coach Davis prepares to add more insurance to his 2024 class. A player of Ivy’s caliber would be a monstrous get for the Tigers if they can beat out Texas A&M.
