The Buzz: The Latest on the Recruiting Trail for LSU Football

The Tigers continue making moves on "The Trail" this offseason, more rumblings in Baton Rouge.

The LSU football staff continues pushing for a handful of top prospects through several different avenues. From the high school ranks to JUCO to the NCAA Transfer Portal, Brian Kelly and Co. remain active in bringing top talent to Baton Rouge.

Now, more buzz is developing in Death Valley with a pair of five-stars, a new defensive line target and more.

The Scoop in The Boot:

The 5-Star Visitor: WR Ryan Williams Cancels LSU Visit

Five-star wide receiver Ryan Williams, who recently backed off of his commitment to the Alabama Crimson Tide, has canceled his visit to Baton Rouge. He was expected in town on Wednesday and Thursday for an official.

Williams will now choose between Alabama, Texas A&M, Texas and Auburn. The Longhorns will visit with Williams on Wednesday.

Williams took an unofficial to Tuscaloosa on Monday night and will be back in town this weekend for his official visit. On3 reported the visit first.

It'll be four schools in one week for Williams as he navigates his recruitment process from "scratch" once again.

A player who was originally a member of the 2025 recruiting class, he elected to reclassify into the 2024 cycle to take his talents to the next level a year early.

Now, it's full steam ahead to make a decision before the Signing Period in February.

With finalists consisting of Alabama, Auburn, Texas and Texas A&M, Williams will be wined and dined once again by four of the top programs in the country.

It'll be tough for others to get the Alabama native out of his home state with both the Tide and Auburn trending, but they'll continue getting their crack at the No. 3 wideout in America.

Williams had unofficially visited Baton Rouge once this year where he was accompanied by the No. 2 quarterback in the 2025 class, George MacIntyre. Now, the Tigers are out of the mix.

With less than a month until a commitment is made public, the 5-star remains one of the top players remaining on the market.

The Defensive Line Target: Jalil Muhammad

It's no secret defensive line depth remains of the utmost importance for LSU. With both Maason Smith and Mekhi Wingo departing for the 2024 NFL Draft, along with Jordan Jefferson, there's a lack of bodies on the interior defensive line.

There's a new name to monitor on the market: JUCO DL Jalil Muhammad has emerged as a name to keep tabs on.

The Georgia native signed with Arkansas State out of high school, but ultimately took the JUCO route, attending Garden City CC.

The 6-foot-3, 290-pounder logged 10 sacks with 15.5 tackles for loss and three forced fumbles during the 2023 season.

Brian Kelly has voiced the importance of pursuing players with multiple years of eligibility, and for Muhammad, he meets the criteria.

He'll navigate his final semester of JUCO ball with the Tigers keeping tabs here. The anticipation is that LSU will make moves during the spring Transfer Portal window as they work through the scholarship count. Muhammad will be a name to monitor.

Terry Bussey Locks in Trip to Baton Rouge

The most important prospect remaining on LSU's 2024 Big Board is five-star athlete Terry Bussey. Despite staying locked in with his Texas A&M commitment at this moment, the prized prospect will take his fair share of visits before putting pen to paper in February.

Brian Kelly and LSU will be one of those programs to receive an unofficial visit.

Bussey will be back in Baton Rouge on January 31 with the Tigers getting one last chance to roll out the red carpet for the top player remaining on the market. On3 first reported the visit.

The 5-star will also check out Georgia on Jan. 26 before taking his final visit to Texas A&M on Feb. 2.

Georgia: Jan. 26

LSU: Jan. 31

Texas A&M: Feb. 2

It'll be a busy stretch for Bussey before locking in his decision during the Signing Period in February.
