The LSU offense is clicking on all cylinders with signal-caller Jayden Daniels at the helm, but the emergence of first-year Tiger Logan Diggs has unlocked a new element to the balanced attack.

Diggs, a Louisiana native who spent his first two years in college at Notre Dame, made the decision to transfer back home to represent the purple and gold to finish out his college career.

Brian Kelly recruited Diggs out of high school, and once the prized running back entered the NCAA Transfer Portal, it didn’t take long for the Tigers to swoop in and secure the versatile back.

Now, as the back end of the 2023 season takes shape, Diggs has proven just how valuable his presence has been in the offense.

“We were looking for somebody that could change the dynamics of our running back room, and we just liked the way he played the game,” Kelly said. “He was somebody that had an edge to him. He was a guy that was featured in the passing game as a running back. It was pretty evident that he had the skills necessary to play at the highest level, and he was a really good student.”

The Numbers… 105 carries, 611 yards and six touchdowns on 5.8 yards per carry. Through the air? Eight receptions for 82 yards.

Despite the statistics not necessarily “jumping off of the page,” his impact has gone beyond the box score. For LSU to have such a lethal weapon in the backfield has opened up quarterback Jayden Daniels and his receiving threats for monster plays through the air.

Daniels and junior wideout Malik Nabers have been in sync through eight games with his sidekick, Brian Thomas Jr, emerging as a critical piece to the passing attack.

With Daniels, Nabers and Thomas handling business through the air and Diggs becoming a threat on the ground, it’s made this offense look virtually unstoppable.

Diggs is living the dream. To come back home and represent his home state means the world to him, but more importantly, the opportunity for his mother to attend each and every home game was key in the decision.

“My mother sacrificed so much for me and my brother growing up,” Diggs said. “It was tough growing up. I watched her every day to make sure we had a roof over our heads and food on the table every night. She taught me to never, ever quit and keep going no matter how hard the times may get.”

Now, it’s all coming together for Diggs and his impact has gone beyond the gridiron. He’s provided more Louisiana flare to the purple and gold while exemplifying character in the locker room. The players gravitate to him. The program respects him.

As year one in Baton Rouge continues, Diggs will remain a critical piece to the engine on offense in order to see success with four games to go.
