Transfer Portal: LSU Finalists For Alabama Transfer DB Jameer Grimsley

In this story:
The LSU football staff continues recruiting via the NCAA Transfer Portal with another prized prospect on their radar.
Alabama transfer defensive back Jameer Grimsley has revealed LSU and Florida as his finalists after entering the portal this week.
Grimsley joined Alabama in January as an early enrollee, but has not played a down for the Crimson Tide before deciding to enter the portal. Alabama signed 23 players on Early Signing Day on Dec. 20. with 21 players enrolling early.
Grimsley played both corner and wide receiver in high school and became the eighth defensive back to enter the Transfer Portal this offseason.
He joined Trey Amos, Caleb Downs, Antonio Kite, Earl Little III, Jake Pope, Dezz Ricks and and Kristian Story as players departing Tuscaloosa after Nick Saban announced his retirement.
For Grimsley, his recruitment came down to Alabama and Florida before committing to the Crimson Tide. The key factor here: Corey Raymond, who was Florida's defensive backs coach at the time.

Now with Raymond LSU's staff, it once again could pay dividends.
Grimsley has stated his relationship with Raymond has been positive, which has LSU as a finalist alongside Florida upon entering the portal.
As it stands, Grimsley will take an unofficial visit to Florida on Sunday with the Gators trending for his services, but Raymond and Co. will certainly monitor the four-star 2024 prospect.
During his previous coaching stint at LSU from 2012-2021, Raymond coached seven players who earned first-team All-America honors along with four first round NFL Draft picks. He had another five players selected in the second round of the NFL Draft and also coached the 2019 Jim Thorpe Award winner Grant Delpit.
Raymond is a former standout defensive back for the Tigers and later went on play six seasons in the NFL.
“Corey’s passion for LSU and the desire for our program to have the best defensive back unit in the country really stood out,” Kelly said. “Corey’s tremendous knowledge and experience, along with his recruiting success, make him a great addition to a strong defensive staff."
Now, Raymond will put his recruiting cap on for Grimsley, one of the top Transfer Portal defensive backs who will have four years of eligibility.
