What LSU Football Is Getting In 4-Star Safety Joel Rogers

In this story:
LSU added a commitment from West Feliciana (Saint Francisville, La.) safety Joel Rogers on Monday with the first summer domino falling the Tigers’ way.
The No. 8 overall player in Louisiana, Brian Kelly and his program added a do-it-all athlete to their 2024 class.
Rogers is one of the more gifted prospects in the state. A guy who’s played both sides of the ball his entire high school career, he’s projected to pan out as a safety at the next level to carry on the “DBU” tradition in Death Valley.
It was clear where Rogers wanted to be. He took a trip to Baton Rouge last weekend as he began his stretch of summer visits, but after his time with Kelly’s staff, he canceled his other two planned visits to Alabama and TCU.
At 6-foot, 185-pounds, Rogers attains the adequate size and strength of a safety at the next level. With another year in high school, the sky's the limit for the dynamic defensive back.
What makes Rogers so special?
Versatility
Rogers’ size allows him to fit the prototypical safety mold. With sideline-to-sideline speed, he moves across the field shot out of a cannon, and it’s only become more impressive over the last 12 months.
As he continues filling out his frame and dialing in on being defensive back, the sky’s the limit.
He’s a Swiss Army knife with the ability to be a plug and play type of athlete for the Tigers. Despite being a safety at the next level, he could fill the role at nickel and more for this defensive backfield moving forward. With incredible technique and balance, he can do more than listed.
Mobility, Striking Power
As a quarterback in high school, he showcased his mobility on a weekly basis against gifted Louisiana talent. As he transitions to a full-time safety role, that skill set will only help him moving forward.
With the athletic ability of a defensive back and the mindset of a quarterback, he can read defenses better than most. Rogers understands what’s coming next, and with that, he puts himself in position to make a highlight reel play more times than not with his hard-hitting ability.
The striking power of his is a major takeaway. Rogers hits like a Mack Truck when getting downfield with full speed and it’s only going to get scarier moving forward with the Tigers and their staff coaching him up to reach his full potential.
Leadership
Rogers is a locker room favorite. Ask anyone on his high school squad and they’ll mention his mindset before his physical attributes. As he moves on to the next level, it’ll only become that much more important in the Tigers locker room. A high character Louisiana native gives this program a boost moving forward.
