Miami Interviews Former Hurricane Star Leonard Hankerson for WR Vacancy

Could Mario Cristobal bring home another former Hurricane?

Susan Miller Degnan of the Miami Herald reported early Wednesday morning that Leonard Hankerson, San Francisco assistant and former Miami Hurricane star wideout, has interviewed for the wide receiver coach position at the University of Miami.

Hankerson, who prepped at Ft. Lauderdale (Fla.) St. Thomas Aquines, is sixth in school all-time receiving yards and seventh in receptions. Hankerson played at Miami from 2007-10.

Hankerson was listed on the initial All Hurricanes top wide receiver coach candidates for Miami given his south Florida history and obvious ties to The U. Other names include James Coley and Kevin Beard.

Fans have longed for former Miami receiver Lamar Thomas to come home. Coley has also been a favorite name. Fans don't make the decisions in college football. However, there's been a lot of pressure on making the correct hire and there's been plenty of speculation surrounding what Cristobal will do.

Should Hankerson end up at Miami, he would bring NFL coaching experience and hometown ties that would help with recruiting. Recruiting and development both need improvement at wideout and Hankerson would contribute immediately in those areas.
