Video & Analysis: Isaiah Livers Talks Team IQ, Praises Eli Brooks

Isaiah Livers is poised for a breakout year but he's got a lot of help around him.

Michigan head basketball coach Juwan Howard has mentioned the team's IQ on several different occasions through just two games. Junior forward Isaiah Livers is one of those smart basketball players and he was able to explain where a team-wide intelligence comes from. He also singled out Eli Brooks as perhaps the most heady of them all.

Brown's Breakdown

Both Eli Brooks and Zavier Simpson are sons of coaches so it's not surprising that they're considered cerebral players. Jon Teske is a senior who has played a lot and Livers himself is an intelligent, experienced player. Those four guys, along with some time spent under John Beilein makes for a very smart basketball team.

Livers also mentioned a guy like sophomore David DeJulius, who got a chance to be around Charles Matthews last year, as a young, inexperienced player who seems to be wise beyond his years.

It's not really surprising when you think about the kind of kids that came to play under Beilein but I actually think it's an overlooked area when it comes to adapting to a new staff. If the players are smart, it's going to be a much smoother transition, and that might be what we're seeing in the early stages of Juwan Howard's first season.
