Big Ten Women's Basketball Tournament: Iowa and Nebraska advance to final

Caitlin Clark's Iowa will face the Nebraska Cornhuskers in the final of the Big Ten Women's Basketball Tournament on Sunday.

Iowa, the highest ranked team left in the tournament after No. 1 Ohio State were shocked by Maryland on Friday, comfortably beat the Gophers' conquerors Michigan 95-68, with Clark top-scoring for the Hawkeyes with 28 points and 15 assists.

Earlier, Maryland was unable to follows Friday with another as it fell 78-68 to Nebraska, who were led by Jaz Shelley's 30 points. 

The two teams will face off in the championship Sunday at 11 a.m.

Game 11 — No. 5 Nebraska beat No. 8 Maryland 78-68

  • The Cornhuskers with a commanding 25-12 lead after one quarter of play. Jaz Shelley with 11 points to lead Nebraska. 
  • The Terrapins cut into the lead a bit in the second quarter. Huskers are up 47-40 at the half. Shelley up to 17 points for Nebraska. Shyanne Sellers leading the comeback charge for the Terrapins with 13 points. Faith Masonius also with 10 for Maryland. 
  • Maryland finished the third quarter just one behind after outscoring the Huskers 19-13.
  • Nebraska was able to pull away in the final quarter to clinch their place in the final, with Shelley dominating the scoring for the Huskers with 30. Maryland had five players with 10 or more points but it wasn't enough.

Game 12 — No. 2 Iowa beat No. 6 Michigan 95-68

  • The Hawkeyes made their tournament debut on Friday, downing seventh-seeded Penn State 85-62. The Wolverines knocked the Minnesota Golden Gophers out of the tournament with a 76-57 win Friday.
  • A fiercely contested first quarter saw the Wolverines take the edge 25-22.
  • But Caitlin Clark and the Hawkeyes came roaring back in the second to lead 51-42 at the half. A quick burst late in the quarter saw Clark reach 19 points and 11 assists. Guard Jordan Hobbs is top scorer for the Wolverines with 14.
  • Iowa’s class is showing in the third, stretching their lead to 72-55. Hannah Stuelke has grown in prominence, and has 14 points on 6/6 shooting. 
  • After a close start it ended in a rout, with Clark turning on the afterburners in the fourth. She finishes with 28 points as Iowa ran out 95-68 winners.
