Video & Analysis: Juwan Howard Discusses Adrian Nunez's Defense, Team Approach

It looked like Adrian Nunez was going to be an afterthought under John Beilein and now he's starting for Juwan Howard.

Sophomore guard Adrian Nunez played just 40 minutes over the course of the entire season last year and looked like an afterthought among his classmates. Fast forward to now and he's starting for first-year head coach Juwan Howard.

On defense against Appalachian State, Nunez struggled to stay in front of his man and picked up four fouls in just 13 minutes of action. He showed some frustration after picking up fouls No. 3 and 4 and clearly saw his first start going differently. Howard discussed the defensive effort against the Mountaineers and gave a Nunez-specific breakdown as well.

Brown's Breakdown

Nunez was very lightly recruited as a high school prospect and seemed like he might struggle to find the floor in just a few appearances last season. Now, he's starting and seems to have Howard's trust.

Of course, he'll likely be pushed back to the bench once freshman Franz Wagner is healthy, but it's clear he has something Howard likes. He's been billed as a great shooter and also had good size at 6-6, 210 pounds. I'm a little concerned about Nunez's foot speed and overall athleticism, but he looked pretty good in flashes and knocked down one of his two three-point shots last week.
