Michigan Football, Sherrone Moore Make Huge Hire Stealing Tony Alford From Ohio State

Sherrone Moore wasted no time replacing Mike Hart and he did so in a MAJOR way.

Well, Coach Sherrone Moore, that's how you make a splash hire. Per multiple reports, Moore has hired running backs coach Tony Alford away from Ohio State. No, that's not a typo.

Alford has been in Columbus for eight years and spent six years at Notre Dame before that. He has coached some phenomenal backs and has put several of them into the league. During his time in Columbus, Alford coached four 1000-yard rushers during his time with the Buckeyes - Ezekiel Elliott (2015), Mike Weber (2016), JK Dobbins (2017, 2018 and 2019), and TreVeyon Henderson (2021). While at Notre Dame, Alford actually coached wide receivers during part of his stint. He helped Michael Floyd develop into a first-round pick and also to consecutive 1000-yard receiving seasons. The dude can flat out coach ball.

He's also billed as one of the best recruiters in the entire country despite his location and position. He has landed numerous four-star prospects and one five-star back in Henderson. As an Ohio native, with that kind of track record, he should be a force at U-M.

With Alford on the way, Sherrone Moore's on-field staff is now complete. The defensive staff was formally announced within the past week and now Alford is up to replace Hart, giving Moore one of the most complete, versatile and talented recruiting staffs in the entire nation.
