Boys Basketball - District Games In Full Swing

Publish date:

It’s on, baby! The district round is moving along and we are gearing up for the state finals before this month is out!

So far, there have been a few surprise wins and some big blowouts. This is when it matters. Teams must play their best or be staring track season in the face. Let’s take a look at what has transpired since the last column.

Century Club Part 14

Flint Northern 100 Davison 61

Shaq Smith led all scorers with 29 points in the Wednesday district semifinal game. Dalvin David had 14 and Aundre Gibson scored 10. In the losing effort, Kyle Landis scored 23 for Davison. The win moves Northern into the district final game against rival Flint Northwestern. That game will be played at 7pm tomorrow (Friday) in Davison.

Coach Cottrell’s Blowout of the Week

Dearborn Heights Star International 52 Dearborn Riverside Academy West 7

Wow. That’s all I can say about this game. Seven points in a district game? This was almost the low scoring game of the week as well. Ouch!

Low Score of the Week

Grand Haven 32 Muskegon Mona Shores 22

With 6’9” center Nate VanArendonk, Grand Haven knew they had the inside game under control. That’s why Mona Shores slowed down the game; trying to take VanArendonk out of his element. With the score 14-13 at halftime, the pace had been set. Down the stretch, Grand Haven made all eight of their foul shots in the last 1:30 of the game and put away Mona Shores. Noah Veach led scoring with 10 points. VanArendonk scored six and blocked three shots. Raywuan Bell scored 14 of his team’s 22 points in the losing effort.

High Score of the Week

Grand Rapids South Christian 92 Wyoming Park 87

It took an overtime session to settle this dispute. Five players scored in double digits for GR South Christian. Leading the way was Jordan Haan with 18 points. Matt Deppe scored 17 and Dan Miedema and Drew Steghuis each scored 16. For Wyoming Park, Devonta Guydon scored 34 points to lead all scorers.
