Now that the holidays are over, we can focus on a full slate of basketball. 

Schools have gone back to regular classes and the boys basketball races are starting to heat up. There was some nice action in the past week. Many teams played tough, close games and got a few nice wins. Other teams went home disappointed. It’s nice to see how players are stepping up for their respective teams and coming through with games that prove that they are the leaders for the team. With that said, let’s take a look at the action in boy’s hoops.

High Score of the Week

Montague 87 Mason County Central 79 (166 points)

It wasn’t pretty and Montague was pushed to overtime, but they prevailed and got the win. Cody Kater was able to hit a shot that forced overtime and scored 18 points, pulled down 12 rebounds, and tossed five assists for Montague. Matt DeJong scored 28 (nine in overtime) 14 rebounds, five assists, and five steals. Eleven players for Mason County Central scored in double figures. They were led by Jared Lauber with 15 followed by David Soraci’s 12. Nino Gonzales and John Jackoviak each scored 11.

Birmingham Seaholm 95 Troy 71 (166 points)

The player of the night was definitely Richaud Pack. He scored a school record 56 points, breaking the old mark of 52 which had stood for 21 years. He hit eight of his 11 three point shots, 20 of 27 from the floor, and eight of his 10 free throws. According to Maxpreps and the Seaholm Highlander School Newspaper, he is the top scorer in the nation with an average of 37.6 points per game. The frontcourt press that they employ also helped him get the points by not allowing Troy to get to their side of the court without some hard work. Bobby Wunderlich led the Troy squad with 24 points.

Low Score of the Week

Warren DeLaSalle 36 Consortium College Prep 30 (66 points)

While this wasn’t the barn-burner that Seaholm and Troy (or Montague and Mason County Central) played last week, it was none-the-less exciting. The score was 7-4 at the end of the first quarter and 18-16 at the half. Deonte Maliq Smith scored 11 points in the losing effort. DeLaSalle is still undefeated at 6-0 and keeps their #5 ranking in Class A intact.

Tri Unity Christian 70 Potter’s House Christian 23 (47 points)

What can be said about this game? Potter’s House is a small school and just got whipped in the game. Tri Unity is one of the better teams in Class D this year. Since both of the schools are pretty small, I wasn’t able to find any stats on the game. Sorry about that everyone! It was a blowout anyway!
