Both teams have a lot of history. Hudson won 72 straight games in the early 1970’s and set a record. St. Francis has won a lot of state titles and sent plenty of kids to college. St. Francis is in gold pants and gold helmets. Hudson is wearing black pants with an orange strip and white jerseys with orange shoulders. On offense, Hudson will run a wing t. That’s the same offense that St. Francis will run as well. The Gladiator defense has only allowed 271 rushing yards on the season. It will be tough sledding for Hudson and their running game.

 

Hudson made a terrible move to begin the game; they grabbed the ball before it went out of bounds on the kickoff and were pinned at the 11. When they couldn’t move the ball, they were forced to punt. Indiana commit Matt Zakrzewski returned the punt to the 19. With a first and goal at the five, Joey Kerridge pushed the ball down to the three and Ben Swan ran it in on the next play. On their second possession, Swan ran twice. First, he lost a yard. Then he busted a 69 yard touchdown run with 2:18 left in the quarter. Hudson tried to move the ball, but an incomplete pass on a third and five ended the drive. The play was there, but TCSF brought pressure and forced an incompletion. Fourth and six on the St. Francis 16 only moved four yards and a turnover on downs gave TCSF the ball on their 12. It only took the Gladiators four more minutes to punch in another score…and that was the longest they held on to the ball all day. This time, it was quarterback Riley Bullough with a 35 yard touchdown pass to Ian Sheldon. The Bullough to Bullough connection came through on the next possession. Riley hit Max for a 31 yard strike on a toss that was slightly overthrown. Max made a nice play on the ball after beating his defender deep. Finally, after the clock was running to kill the third quarter and move the fourth very quickly, Hudson was able to score. They drove 74 yards in 10 plays and held onto the ball for 5:22. Drew Milligan rushed one yard for the score. Being up 42-8 in the fourth, all the St. Francis players got a chance to play and enjoy the victory.

For Traverse City St. Francis, Ben Swan led the way. He had 118 yards and three touchdowns on 10 carries. Quarterback Riley Bullough was three of three for 85 yards and two touchdowns while also running seven times for 39 yards. Max Bullough was all over the place. He had 11 tackles, an interception, and a pass reception for a touchdown. Max was the best player on the field. For Hudson, it wasn’t their day. Drew Milligan ran 19 times for 126 yards and the lone touchdown. Quarterback Nathan Smith completed one of his four passes for four yards. He also ran three times for 23 yards. John Nealy ran eight times for 48 yards.
