• I was talking with a media person from South Florida today who called to ask me if I thought Joey should start over Daunte in Miami. To which I replied: “you read Spartan Nation, I wouldn’t start him against my 16-month old.” The fans want the baby kangaroo (Joey) so let them have him. Watching Saban lose with him would be classic.
• Seattle’s Shaun Alexander is out 5 weeks according to my source close to Shaun.
• A Nashville newspaper cited my report here on Spartan Nation that Vince Young is close to starting. Jeff Fisher (who will be out as coach at the end of the year, mark it down you read it here first) was not happy with my report, but it is true.
• Matt Millen entered the season concerned about his LB unit (depth) as well as his CB unit as whole. He was right, and WILL fix both in the off season. Sadly there isn't a tree to go pick those two positions off but Millen knows this isn't a Super Bowl team but it is talented. If they had a pass defense they would be 2-1.
• Lions players are very positive as the season progresses. One player on Tuesday said: “I can see and understand why the fans are down, but we really see this thing getting better and I got hope.”
• Giants players have had it with Shockey. “Get that piece of S*** off our team. I am sick of him playing like crap and acting like it is everyone else’s fault. He is worse then T.O. at least two teams got rid of him and he is still here.” I’d say that is pretty blunt.
• I got calls from people at 11 teams after the Lions loss on Sunday. All basically asking: “if Mike Williams is good enough to play in the final and mot important drive of the game, where was he the whole night?” I am a Lions fan but even that move I cannot defend.
• I told you that people “around” Chris Simms feel that the Bucs were “negligent” in not recognizing his severe injury and letting him play on Sunday. Now Chucky (Jon Gruden) is trying to cover for the team and people in Tampa and other places are using my report to fuel the fire.
• I told you all after the draft that my sources with the Cardinals told me: “we will do all we can to make Kurt happy, but I can’t think of any way Leinart stays off the field more then half of a season. Now people are seeing I am right as the Cards are thinking of benching Warner.”
