One Saturday afternoon while watching another listless MSU performance on the football field under JLS my mind began to wander when I thought about a story a friend had told me about. There was a soldier serving in Iraq who wanted to send something home to his children. He sent the only things he had to send……..bandaids and sunscreen. The children were thrilled. It was something from DAD! Thinking about that story from my home in Michigan I wondered what I could do to help. With the help of Rose in California the Dog Tags for Kids was created. The idea is simple. We send dog tags in the appropriate service color that say Love from Dad or Love from Mom to soldiers serving in most harms way so they can send them home to their children. A small token of love that c osts nothing to the soldier.
As the Assistant Project Director, I am the first and last contact with the troops which gives me a unique perspective. Since any correspondence to the web page comes to me, I am lucky enough to be the recipient of very heartwarming emails. Our troops are so grateful for any support but something they can send to their children is almost unheard of. I am also the one who gets all the grief when I have to tell a soldier “We are sorry but we currently are out of funds to purchase blanks but we will keep you information in our data base. I have full faith the American people will support this project once they hear about it.â€
Knowing how Hondo supports our troops, I contacted him and asked him to go to our web page www.dogtagsforkids.org . Read some of the quotes from the troops. Look at the photos of those smiling children. His response was immediate. How can we help? What can we do to make sure this project continues?
Your donation will help send a tag in the appropriate service color to an appreciative service member. There is NO charge to the service member or his family for these tags. After all they are doing for the rest of us, the ‘rest of us’ should be able to help calm a worried child. Just the change in your pocket can make all the differ ence to a worried child missing his Soldier Dad or Mom.  ;You can donate on the web page or you can send a check made out to Kids Charities of the Antelope Valley to:
