Hi Hondo
I know Muhlbach is important, but he ONLY snaps the ball and takes up a roster spot.

Couldn't they find one guy out of 53 who could do what he does with enough practice?

Ted Redman
Louisville, KY
Hi Ted!
Long snapper is the most under ratted position in all of football. I am angry with
the Lions losing Baldwin, but they just can't grab another long snapper. Raiola is the backup and you know I like Dom as a C, but the drop off was going to be way to big. Muhlbach is one of the best in the NFL and the Lions had other people they could have lost. In my opinion the Lions should have kept Baldwin, but not at the expense of Muhlbach.

Hondo,
Thanks for all of your insight into my Lions. Being from Ohio I really
appreciate your blog. At 34 years old, how many more years can we get
from Kitna? Also, is it even imaginable that when Roy's contract is up
in two years that we resign him?
Thanks again,

James

Hi James!
Ideally the Lions wanted this season and next for Kitna before giving the reigns to Stanton. Well now that they have made the bad decision of putting Stanton on IR that would look to push the date back. I think however this and next season is the window. If the Lions fail to show real improvement you will have to rethink playing a Vet rather than a young guy. If Jon gets injured the season will be lost.

As far as Roy, I think that the Lions will certainly have a shot, but look for the Cowboys and the Texans to be in the mix. Here is my prediction and I have reason to believe it to be a real perspective. IF the Lions let this go and Roy hits the open market, he will be gone. It is imperative for Millen to get his resigning done before the end of the year. Matt can't let this slip like it did with Furrey and Redding. There is a reason and a particular person that can be blamed for those two taking so long and Millen HAS TO TAKE THE LEAD if he wants him back.

Hi Hondo,
How disappointing to lose Johnny Baldwin! I hope This Safety they picked up pans out.
Being a Sooners fan I have tired to follow the progress of MLB Teddy Lehman, how close is he to starting, I figure he will see plenty of playing time, but is he fully healthy at
this point to take over at MLB?
Thanks
Mark from Norman, OK!
Mark,
First of all please hit my favorite place to eat in America (2nd favorite in the world)
El Chico's! Secondly Teddy had progressed well and if there is any waver in Paris you will see Teddy. As far as Baldwin this just really makes me shake my head. You cut your teams emotional leader in Donte' Curry who has done all that the staff has asked, you cut a rookie who has all the tools, albeit raw and keep Cannon? Please! This was just a poor decision in my opinion. I can tell you that there were some upset players with Curry getting cut also. They just don't seem to have put a lot of thought into this move.

I know that you have said since March that the Lions figured that KJ would be back after week 6. You were correct. You also have said since Duckett signed that he would start the season as the RB starter. Do you still think so?
Carrin from Detroit
Hi Carrin!
I stand by it wholeheartedly. I think when the Lions start the season in Oakland on Sunday Duckett will be the starter. I told you all that way back and we shall see!

Hondo,
With Stanton on IR, and Davis and Mr. Irrelevant as well as Baldwin gone from the roster what is wrong with the Lions draft skills?
Stan
Stan I have never liked the Lions scouts. ANYONE can buy a magazine and see that CJ was the best or simply watch film. Scouts don’t get paid for first and second round picks, those should be givens. They get it for the rest of the draft and the Lions have been terrible is assessing talent late in the draft. Or, look at guys who left and went other places that succeeded. The whole planet knew that CJ was the best player in the draft, but you put your 2nd round QB on IR when he could have come back? This draft class really made the obvious more blatant. Millen has to revamp the scouts. I know for a fact that the Lions knew Mike Williams had shall we say motivation issues coming out of USC but Mooch wanted him and got him. Part of the reason the Lions have struggled is because for years they have not been able to have drafts that dealt depth.

You have been behind Marinelli from the beginning do you still support him?
Chris from Lansing
Hi Chris, I really do. The downfall of Marinelli, if he fails is going to be Martz.  Â

Hondo!
Why did Millen keep a 6th receiver in Middleton, and a huge 300-pound converted DT that is now a Fullback, John Bradley, and let go of Johnny Baldwin and Donte Curry. I would think that with as poor as our defense is we would want to be stocking up on defensive prospects. It seems like neither of these 2 guys will see the field that much and Baldwin could have at least taken Curry's spot on special teams.
Your thoughts are much appreciated
Matt from West Branch
Hi Matt! Losing Curry was a blow to the team. How about keeping Calhoun? Martz loves speed over talent in my opinion or why else would Calhoun who has done nothing make this team? I would have cut Calhoun and Cannon and kept Baldwin and Curry.
