Hondo: A big season is coming up for you, talk about getting ready for that.

Shaun: Oh definitely, it’s my fourth year here, last year’s contract, I look forward to staying here so I got to have a big year and hopefully things work out well.

Hondo: I know players say that it isn’t a fact, but it is, you know it and I know it, last year of the contract, you do play knowing that, how much does it weigh in your mind?

Shaun: Yeah especially the type of career I have had up to this far, I haven’t been really happy with what I have done, I really want to prove my mark here in Detroit, and show that I can play football here.

Hondo: Talk about if you would please, there’s a lot of talk about a rookie wage scale, lot of union players have come out and said, “Hey, we would support it, why are we paying guys in the first round more than the hall of famers who have earned it?” Would you support that because it seems like something you would support, you’re just a blue-collar guy, let me earn everything I get.

Shaun: It’s a disproportion. I’m not mad at those guys, if they can get it, they might as well. I think it is a little skew that the guys who haven’t paid the snapper made that kind of money and the guys are busting their butts for a long time here making the same kind of wages so it’s uh it’s definitely skewed but here more to them, go ahead.

Hondo: I said to someone the other day, they asked me about you, “How would you say that Shaun described his first three years and I said I think Shaun would be disappointed. He wants to be the best at everything he does.” How much does that weigh into your motivation?

Shaun: Well definitely that’s huge. I haven’t had the career I wanted too as I said. It’s been disappointing, it’s been frustrating having an injury my second year, haven’t had the year I wanted too last year coming off the injury. It’s been disappointing, but I think I’ve got the chance to put it behind me this year and hopefully I get out there and play some good ball this year.

In accordance to new NFL rules, this won’t be posted as a video (it is longer than 45 seconds and it would only be allowed for 24 hours), which would be better for the fans of course. Don’t blame the Lions however; it is an edict from His Royal Highness The SupremeDictator Roger GODell!
