Tigers Return To Comerica Park For Seven-Game Homestand

DETROIT – With the American League Central Division race headed toward the finish line, the Cleveland Indians make their final regular season appearance in Detroit on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. The seven-game homestand at Comerica Park will also feature the only regular season appearance of the New York Yankees for four games from August 24-27.

Games against the Indians are scheduled for 7:05 p.m. (EDT) on Tuesday and Wednesday, followed by a 1:05 game on Thursday. The Tigers will host the Yankees at 7:05 on Friday, Saturday and Monday, while the game on Sunday, August 26, begins at 1:05.

for Kids” fundraiser for Cornerstone Schools students, an independent Detroit-area school
providing inner-city children quality education, has reached its $1.2 million scholarship goal
for the school’s 1,200 students.

The Cornerstone Schools are building a model of excellence in urban education by providing centers of hope to the children of Detroit through a partnership of families, the schools, community friends and corporate partners.

80’S NIGHT, MAGGLIO CAP & HAIR

The middle game of the Cleveland series on Wednesday, August 22 will be 80’s night. The music of the 80’s will be featured all evening, beginning in the Brushfire Grill at 5 p.m. when WRIF Radio hosts a pregame party.

Also prior to the game, the Children’s Hospital of Michigan will be distributing bike helmets to the first 1,000 children to enter the ballpark as part of the annual Children’s Health Night.

The first 15,000 fans to enter Comerica Park prior to the series finale against Cleveland at 1:05Â on Thursday will take home a Magglio Ordonez cap, including his hair! The caps and signature flowing locks will be sponsored by Diet Pepsi MAX and are certain to become a unique collectible.

Weather permitting, the New York series will feature Friday Fireworks, sponsored by Pepsi, after the first game. Verizon Wireless will sponsor Saturday Fireworks after the second game of the four-game set.

Sunday’s contest is Kids Day at Comerica Park. Kids Day features free rides on the carousel or Ferris Wheel for kids age 14-and-under, face painters stationed near Gate A and Kids Run the Bases following the game (weather permitting), courtesy of Pepsi. Big Boy will sponsor Kids Take the Field pre-game, where lucky children will take the field just prior to the Tigers’ players before the start of the game.

Kids will also have the chance to win one of four, Little Tikes Mini-Hummers, which will be given away on the field during in-game breaks on Sunday. Registration will take place at Section 119 for an opportunity to be part of the giveaway.

The series and homestand finale will be on Monday, August 27 at 7:05. Little Caesars will sponsor Gary Sheffield “Sheff” Hats for the first 10,000 fans to enter the ballpark.

Monday, August 20: Tigers pitcher Joel Zumaya will sign autographs at the Meijer store located at 37201 Warren Road in Westland from 6-7 p.m.

Wednesday, August 22: Ground breaking and the dedication of Norm Hott Field will take place at approximately 11 a.m. at Neil Reid Park, which is located behind Neil Reid High School, 37705 Harper Road in Clinton Township. Tigers first baseman Sean Casey and his wife Mandi are expected to be on hand for this event. Earlier this season, the Detroit Tigers Foundation awarded a $10,000 grant to the Clinton Valley Little League to renovate this barrier-free baseball diamond for children with disabilities. Sean and Mandi Casey matched the $10,000 donation. The field will be named after Mandi Casey’s grandfather and will be home to the Clinton Valley Little League’s Challenger Division.

Thursday, August 23 & Friday, August 24: The Detroit Free Press recently wrote a heartwarming story about a little league player named Alec Kraft who suffers from Crohn’s disease. Alec plays for the NFWB Blue Jays and had a game-clinching hit for his team despite battling this debilitating disease. Alec and the Blue Jays will be guests of the Tigers and seated in a suite for the final game of the Cleveland series. Alec will also throw a ceremonial first pitch prior to the August 24 game against the Yankees.

Saturday, August 25: ABC News Reporter Bob Woodruff will throw a ceremonial first pitch prior to the game against the Yankees. On January 29, 2006, while reporting on U.S. and Iraqi security forces, the co-anchor of ABC’s “World News Tonight” was seriously injured by a roadside bomb that struck his vehicle near Taji, Iraq. He was treated by military medical personnel and spent part of his recovery in Germany. Bob has spent the past 13 months in intensive rehabilitation to relearn many everyday skills. In February 2007, he returned with his first on-air report, which was a documentary that chronicled his traumatic brain injury and recovery. Woodruff is continuing to cover traumatic brain injuries for all ABC news broadcasts and platforms, in addition to stories around the nation and world. The Woodruff family also established the Bob Woodruff Family Fund for Traumatic Brain Injury to raise money to assist members of the military with cognitive rehabilitation and care following a traumatic brain injury suffered in service to our country.
